Bill: Cabinet Proposal of August 2311

Details

Submitted by[?]: Social Liberal Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill presents the formation of a cabinet. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. Traditionally, parties in the proposal vote yes, others (the opposition) vote no. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in and all parties in the proposal have voted yes, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2312

Description[?]:

The SLP would once again like to propose a 3rd cabinet. We need a strong coalition government to end this blasted recession. It has gone on for too long. Our tax reform will be identical to the last one.

MessageWe are open for negotiations. Our only demand is that a coalition governments approves our financial reform. We have been elected for the 3rd consecutive time.

MessageThe central question is: the SLP has been elected for the 3rd consecutive time HOWEVER without an absolute majority. It is quite easy to see: the CP and the NP, with similar finantial policies, have more that 1/2 of the seats in the parliament. Clearly, this means that the SLP can't do whatever it wants without negotiating with the opposition parties in a way that all are, more or less, satisfied. While the SLP does not get this basic concept there will be no "progress" in the currently political situation (or crisis).

MessageAs such, the SLP will have to wait for an absolute majority to put 100% in practice its program. While that does not happen it will have to NEGOTIATE. As the CP has already proposed: we will approve your budget, the recent economical reforms passed by the SLP cannot be supported by the current budget. Though, we will not accept a change to the progressive model of taxation. If the SLP does not accept to negotiate, it is the one and only responsible for this political crisis.

MessageI don't think so. The crisis will not change unless we revert to progressive taxation. Progressive taxation works. That's why it is in place in basically every country on earth. Why should the SLP give into the demands of the opposition? It is the opposition that must give up it's failed dogmas. Precisely because they have failed.

MessageWe don't want to put our program in practice by 100%. We need on agreement on finances and that is all. It doesn't make any sense to me why the SLP should be the party to give up our ideas on finance, while ALL of your ideas remain completely intact when WE have been elected as government 3 times in a row.

MessageOk... We'll approve you reforms on finance for the sake of political stability. But make no mistake, this is only because we want the best for Lusitania and that passes through political stability. Unlike your party, we have a sense of responsibility.

MessageYou still don't get to the point though: the finantial ideas supported by my party (and NP) are in majority in the parliamente, but ok...

MessageWhat is the point of making a coalition if you will not pass our budget? In every democratic nation, a budget is an issue of confidence. If it fails to pass it is a motion of no confidence and the government falls. The coalition's only reason for existence is to ensure the government does not fall.
