Bill: National Anthem Revision Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: National Fasco-Communist Order
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2369
Description[?]:
Our current national anthem contains the word "God". The Telamon Liberty Party is dedicated to freedom from religon and a secular government and would like to engage the Congress in writing a new one or returning to a previous version. OOC: I see you guys tried to do this a month or so ago but it seems to have died. IIRC, the current anthem is a hangover from the days of C&UP and their request to Britianize the nation... but now that they are gone I see no reason to keep it. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The lyrics of the national anthem.
Old value:: Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, How shall we extol thee, Who are born of thee? Wider still and wider Shall thy bounds be set; God, who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. God, who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet.
Current:
Skjöld: Ég tilheyri þér, Í hjarta eru þínir. Hvar Tælmensku dætur blómstra, Hvar Tælmensku synir syngja, Leyfðu okkur að dansa hamingjusamlega, Í okkar Tælmörk! Og þetta er að fallega lands, Við Tælmensku land, heimili mitt, Við Tælmensku land, heimili mitt. Ekki gráta kæru móður Tælmörk, Hækka höfuðið stoltur hár, Tælmörk er frjáls Frjáls til að lifa! Land fjöll, land með straum. Land fields, land hinna frjálsu. Fjallið, vale – fara hvert sem hann vildi, Sorg og sorg öll sömu – Undir sjó af blóði, Á meðan yfir sjó á flame. Þú ert uppi á minningar frábær gamla daga, Þegar heiður að því þegar nafn þitt flaug yfir Terra, Ég veit að þú ert og mun eftir það sem þú varst. Luthorian: I belong to you In my heart is yours. Where Telamonic daughters bloom, Where Telamonic sons sing, let us dance happily, In our Telamon! And this is to a beautiful country, By Telamon land, my home, By Telamon land, my home. Don't cry dear mother Telamon, Raise your head proud high, Telamon is free Free to live! Country mountains, country with a stream. Land fields, land of the free. The mountain, vale – go wherever he wanted, Sorrow and sorrow all the same – Under a sea of blood, Meanwhile over sea on flame. You are reminiscing about the great old days, Already honored when your name flew over Terra, I know you are and will remember what you were. |
Proposed:
Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, How shall we extol thee, Who are born of thee? Wider still and wider Shall thy bounds be set; We who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. We who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. |

Message | I'd like to see what your suggestions are for the anthem. I like what we've got, but if you propose a better one, we wouldn't be adverse to supporting a change. |

Message | We would like to return to the original anthem, "Onward Telamon": Come, fellow Telamonians Let us progress towards happiness together May our noble aspiration bring Telamon success Come, let us unite In a new spirit Let our voices soar as one Onward Telamon Onward Telamon |

Message | No!! We like Land of Hope and Glory - we fought for years (nay decades!) to have it as our national anthem. We do however understand the argument about God and so would be happy to see the word God replaced by another 'neutral' word, or just leave it as it is |

Message | Leave as it is, it is a great song and the majority of people in Telamon do follow one of the religions that follow the 1 almighty God. |

Message | No, that version doesn't work with the tune as the word God has just been removed, something needs to replace it I could suggest either 1. We who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. 2. They who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. 3. Those who made thee mighy, Make thee mightier yet. 4. You who made thee mighty, Make thee mightier yet. |
