Bill: National Health Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: LibCom Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2077

Description[?]:

Malivia's health professionals have an obligation to treat all those in need. The existence of private clinics, which treat on the basis of who can pay, undermines their ability to fulfil that obligation. The best standards of healthcare must be available to all, on an equal basis.

Messagenope, private care helps push development, we should permit any and all money to work toward heath care.

MessageNot a chance. Maybe we should introduce all private care? Competition between providers helps keep costs down to the consumer.

MessageThat's not really true with things like healthcare, where demand is almost completely inelastic.

Messageout of the question.

its like saying we're only going to use a dirty needle when taking your blood from now on.

EM makes a fair point, competition keeps prices down. countries that have a public helath system having waiting lists that *at there shortest* are about 6 months long! furthermore, the bureacracy and cost of such an enterprise is usually incredibly expensive and ultimately a severe drain.

and to ban private health care is even more irresponsible. private medicine has proven itself to be effective, fast, safe and better for patients across the board.

Having said that, we do understand the reasoning behind having a public health system and that the mark of a higher civilization is to look after those that cannot look after themselves.

But that is what we have right now: a public health care system. don't bog it down with all the people you force to use it. it only makes the waiting period longer and we believe it is fundamentally wrong to prevent people from ensuring they have the best health, by private or public means.

as it currently stands we cannot support this bill, but we do support the current law.

MessageWaiting lists in the public system are long because doctors spend half their time working in private clinics. This bill will cut waiting times.

Messagewaiting lists in the public system are so long becuase the system is incredibly inefficient. not becuase doctors work in both systems at the same time. it would be a complete conflict of interest for a doctor to work in both the private and public health system.

and once again we have a law that has no basic strategy to nor any attempt to formulate a proposal about how it should be run.

no mention of hospital sizes.

no mention of locations.

no mention of equipment, personnel or the breakdown of the managerial system.

are we to assume that it will just exist *poof* our of thin air? please be a bit more responsible and show us how your health care system won't let everyone down.

MessageIf the people don't want private clincs, they will fail. So really, you could prove your point by allowing them.

MessageWe are confused by the SRP's last statement. If the privaet clinics will fail through lack of interest why did they vote on banning them?

MessageSRP, private clinics won't fail, because the rich want preferential access to doctors, and will pay for it, at the expense of the poor.

ooc: FRP, are you familiar with the UK? Most specialists work in both the NHS and private clinics. It may be a conflict of interest, but it's very very common.

Messagein reference to the libcom comment, we are perfectly willing to pass a separate law saying that a doctor must choose which field they want to work and stay there, unless its something like 6 months doing this then 6 months doing that. etc. we can work out the particulars later.
