Bill: UCA Industrial Relations Manifesto

Details

Submitted by[?]: United Liberal Alliance

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2321

Description[?]:

We only voted against the FMP proposal because it took away public employees right to strike altogether, which we could not support. Yes they should have to ensure an minimal level of service, but they still should have the right to strike. Also, whilst not in favour of secondary strike action, we don't feel we can ban it, but should instead limit it to closely related unions. We therefore submit this alternative proposal.

MessageIn what way do you not like article1? Obviously people should be free as far as possible to strike, but we dislike unions going on strike for no reason simply 'in support' of others. This article recognises that if you have for example 2 postal unions and one goes on strike, the other may have legitimate cause for striking as well and should be permitted to, but that a sailors union for example would have no reason to join them except in the vague idea of sympathy which leads to general strikes and chaos!! (I know it's a little illiberal but...!)

As FMP for article 2, I though it was more stringent than the current one. At present, for a union to strike it has to have a majority from all that vote, - that could be 3 people in the executive committee - this law would propose ensuring that all members are ballotted and that a majority of all members is required for a strike - this makes it harder to go on strike.

MessagePeople should be able to strike for whatever reason they want at any time. It's basic TLP principles.

Random fact: It is possible for a player to transfer ownership of a character or a royal house to another player. This should be done in a public way, such as on the Character Transfers thread, so that if a dispute arises in the future, Moderation can be pointed towards evidence of the transfer.

Random quote: "Up against the corporate government, voters find themselves asked to choose between look-alike candidates from two parties vying to see who takes the marching orders from their campaign paymasters and their future employers. The money of vested interest nullifies genuine voter choice and trust." - Ralph Nader
