Bill: Opening Commercial Speech Act
Details

Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2324
Description[?]:
Advertising, though often demonized by anti-business advocates, is an important form of communication for companies attempting to sell goods and gain consumers. Malivia's ban on advertising prevents businesses from pursuing the legitimate interest of convincing citizens to buy their products. This bill will allow for advertising on television, radio, and in print, with the following stipulations: 1) All statements must be factually true. a) Scientific studies cited by advertisements must be from peer reviewed, independently funded journals. Companies cannot use their own studies. b) Consumer surveys must be from independent agencies. Companies cannot use their own surveys. 2) Advertisement of controlled substances, including alcohol, tobacco, recreational and medicinal drugs, is banned. 3) Advertisement of foreign produced goods is banned. 4) Advertisements must still meet decency standards as established by law. |

Message | Support!!!! Prohibiting advertising is so detrimental to any economy, and I've long opposed attempts to prohibit it. |

Message | We are against. Exposure can easily be achieved by independent reviewers. If we require all studies to be independently funded and verified, the only thing we are permitting by ads is the domination of the deepest pockets. In addition an ad can state factual information but then omit more information which is determinental to the product. Consumers should be permitted to base their purchases on merit rather then what the current stars are paid to support. |
