Bill: Welfare Reform Bill

Details

Submitted by[?]: Gao-Showa Imperial Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2324

Description[?]:

1. Families do no need government support just for being large. If they are to poor to adequately care for their children on their own the government should step in but not otherwise.
2. The government can not provide unemployment benefits for ever or else there is less of an incentive to find work. We should encourage people to work not live of benefits forever.
3. If people want to keep money in private pension schemes the government has no right to stop them.

MessageWe actually agree with the first two propoals, and we are happy for unemployment benefits to become job-seekers benefits. But we do not agree with changing the "reasonable" benefit to "very basic", we will have to consider this bill a while longer before voting.

MessageWe apologise, we meant to say we agree with the first and last proposals.

MessageI realise the difficulties of a very basic income, however it is the only option available which is time limited and if given the choice we probably would have favoured time limiting the current policy.

MessageWe understand what you say, but we do not believe it would be right for us to vote for such a reduction. While we agree with what you believe in principal, the realistic implecations (i.e. that we can only time limit if we reduce the amounts) means that we will have to vote no.

Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election.

Random quote: "The avoidance of taxes is the only intellectual pursuit that still carries any reward." - John Maynard Keynes
