Message | But that means that police can also break up peaceful protests. While we understand the importance of the gang threat, we can't just allow this. This will infringe upon the rights of the majority who obey the law. |

Message | This bill applies specifically to gangs, not just any protest. I have defined it as such, so it doesn't give police any authority to break up peaceful protests. Gangs usually identify themselves by travelling in groups and identifying themselves with colors or tatoos....this will give the police the auhority to question and detain them, making arrests or breaking them up if necessary. |

Message | But gangs, if they've done no wrong, why should the police have the right to infringe upon their civil rights? |

Message | SLP - Have you ever seen a real gang that didn't take part in illegal activities? Why give them the right to escape the police just because they may not be doing anything illegal at the moment? |
Date | 15:24:05, July 13, 2005 CET | From | Proletariat Revolution Party | To | Debating the Safe Communities Act |
Message | And if they're NOT doing anything illegal? Why should they be singled out just because they're a gang of people? |
Date | 22:23:18, July 14, 2005 CET | From | Individualist Progressive Democrats | To | Debating the Safe Communities Act |
Message | This proposal is an infringement on people's right to assembly that has too much potential for abuse. |
Date | 06:35:23, July 15, 2005 CET | From | People's Party | To | Debating the Safe Communities Act |
Message | Because usually gangs don't operate without a criminal purpose. No one is being arrested, just dispersed. If they fight back with violence, then they will be arrested. |
