Bill: A Rational Sports Clubs Policy

Details

Submitted by[?]: Tuesday Is Coming

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2084

Description[?]:

Given that: Sports clubs are an activity not enjoyed by every citizen of Lodamun; (though all pay taxes regardless of this.)
Also that the private sector is more than adequate for providing sports entertainment, without local government support.

We propose that sports be removed of government involvement and that no further tax money is spent on them, as they tend to be able to support themselves.

This bill shall not be interpreted to influence physical education or sports at schools in any way.

MessageWhile we agree with the bill we do not feel that there will be sufficient support to obtain this ideal.

One question we have is concerning the fostering of potential sporting talent from the less well off in our society. Would this prevent public schools from creating sports teams or from owning sports facilities. If so, we would have to oppose as we consider sports to be an essential part of a complete education. Private schools will of course offer such activities as it is one of the ways in which they can attract customers, but as this parliament has removed this means of ensuring a healthy and balanced education for all, we are concerned that the interpretation of this act would include the removal of sports facilities from the 'nationalised' schools.

MessageOpposed. If the people of Norstavan want to subsidize a sports club, who are we to tell them they can't? Why should the central government have laws that restrict local communities from doing as they wish in fields of entriely local concern?

If the GOVERNMENT of Norstavan wants to subsidize a sports club(at the people's expense), we should have laws to prevent this use of tax money. If the PEOPLE want sports clubs, there will be nothing to stop them from subsidizing/patronizing any team they choose.
But the fact is that not all taxpayers enjoy sports and that many will not recieve a return on their taxes spent for sports clubs. As such, we do not feel that this is tax money well spent.

ASP: School curricula and sports is a separate matter not addressed by this bill. If a government or private school thinks that education should include sports, we have little reason to care, and that is not a matter addressed by this bill and we would.

MessageJus wanted to be clear that a sports club could be interpreted to mean a school or college sports team of kind. These should still be alloed in public schols.

MessageIf the people of Norstavan want to elect a government that promises to raise the tax rate to 100%, the central GOVERNMENT has no business passing a law to prevent them.

MessageNo. This party believes in subsidiarity: the principle that all matters should be handled by the level closest to the local community that is competent to handle them. Individual human dignity is held sacred. The community and community values have their own existence. Each community should set its own rules (thus our support for Equitista's public media bill). Where matters are too large for the individual community -- agricultural policy, gambling and so forth -- the state level should have jurisdiction. Where matters are too large for the state level -- environmental and defence policy, for instance -- then and only then should the federal government have jurisdiction.

Message"Individual dignity is held sacred" is incompatible with "If the people of Norstavan want to elect a government that promises to raise the tax rate to 100%, the central GOVERNMENT has no business passing a law to prevent them."

If 51% of Norstavan citizens decide to elect a government that promises this, the central government has a responsiblity to protect 100% of Norstavan citizens, including the 49% who clearly do not wish for this to happen.
The job of the central government is to protect ALL Lodamun citizens from the initiation of force or fraud by others. Be it other nations, other individuals, or a democratically elected local government that decides to violate some right of the people.
I have stated our order of importance before...here it is again
The Individual is sovereign in regard to (and more important than) The Region.
The Region is sovereign in regard to (and more important than) The Nation
The Nation is sovereign in regard to (and more important than) The International Community.

The only way to partially revoke the chain is if failure to do so would violate the rights of others.
We know that not all agree with this, but we wish our position to be clear and will defend or clarify it when necessary.

Random fact: Particracy does not allow real-life brand names (eg. Coca Cola, McDonalds, Microsoft). However, in the case of military equipment brand names it is permitted to use simple number-letter combinations (eg. T-90 and F-22) borrowed from real life, and also simple generic names, like those of animals (eg. Leopard and Jaguar).
