Bill: LITP 2341 (ii) Personal Responsibility in consumption

Details

Submitted by[?]: Likaton Coalition of the Willing

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2341

Description[?]:

We feel that over-legislating the food market, whilst at the same time not regulating recreation drugs, is a ludicrous double standard.

We propose that the following be listed:
Genetically Modified Ingredients
Chemicals used in food production
Major Ingredients
Any ingredient, additive, or product used that has a recognised allergy assocciated with it.

We propose that this labelling has to be placed on the products packaging.

We also propose that local government take resposibility for managing food standards, based on the needs of their communities, and that the sale of food within these provisions be unregulated.

We also propose that recreational drugs are not allowed, except those that are naturally produced.

We feel that this relaxation of some regulation will encourage our sitizens to think more carefully about what they are eating, and allow market forces, which are always more effective than legislative ones, to determine the nature of corporate involvement.

MessageWe cannot vote for any bill that would allow stores to sell spoiled food. Note that it does not even require open dating of the food, such that consumers would not even know that they were purchasing spoiled food.

We also see no advantage to allowing manufacturers to hide any ingredients, even though we will also admit that with the restrictions suggested it would be far from the worst thing, either.

There is also a strange logic, we will admit, in the bill with respect to recreational drugs-- that if people could "spike" drugs with additional addicting ingredients and not list them clearly on the package, that limiting legal drugs to naturally occurring drugs would make some sense.

However, we prefer not to regulate what drugs people can take, but instead make sure the buyer knows what he is getting.

In the end, this bill in general does too little of letting the buyer know what he is getting.

Random fact: When you join the game, you will find yourself with only zero seats. That's because your party's representatives haven't been elected yet. You need to establish your party's position on issues by proposing several bills that your party wants passed and sending them to vote. This raises your visibility and if you do it enough, you will win seats at the next election.
