Message | "thsi method should be more efficient." How so? Actually, the current situation is more efficient. To demonstrate how, I'll need to use an example: *Gevaro consumes, on average, 12 MWh *Albiland consumes 6 MWh *Lindar Valley consumes 15 MWh *Athosia consumes 8 MWh *Terrarokka consumes 11 MWh *Gevaro generates 10 MWh *Albiland generates 8 MWh *Lindar Valley generates 12 MWh *Athosia generates 8 MWh *Terrarokka generates 15 MWh Under the proposed system, as regional grids are not connected (if they were, it would be a national grid, not maintaining its *own* power grid, which implies separatism), Gevaro and Lindar Valley have less power than they need and Albiland and Terrarokka generate more power than they need. To combat this, if this bill passes, the former two would need to increase their generation capabilities (perhaps by needlessly constructing a new, large coal or nuclear plant) and the former two need to decrease their production (by either pumped storage plants or by closing a large power plant). In any case, the final result is that to avoid brownouts and the like, each region needs to build slightly more production capacity than necessary. Whereas, if the grids were connected, some regions (usually the larger ones) could suck the surplus generated by other regions without resorting to diesel engines to meet demand or without requiring pumped storage plants to burn off the excess. Further, a national power grid allows for a national electricity market: that is, a generator anwhere can sell its electricity to a retail outlet anywhere else. |
