Announcement from the Government of the Federal Republic of Solentia

This press message was released by the Government of the Federal Republic of Solentia.

Halion Conference for Peace in Selucia and Badara

The tall spires of Halion's downtown cast shadows that were doubly long, as it was late afternoon in the capital city of Solentia. The shadows didn't reach the government district, though, and here the buildings were squat and ornate, the skies clear and red-blue, and the majority of people were dressed well, suits and ties replacing the fashions of the rest of the nation. It was chilly, being December, but it was abnormally warm, and the heavy coats usual for the time had been doffed in favor of lighter apparel.
It was in the government district that many interested in foreign affairs had paid close attention to the developing crisis in Selucia and Al'Badara through the news. Many Solentians had watched in anguish as diplomatic solutions failed to alleviate tensions, and then been horrified as the crisis devolved into sheer war, the first of its kind in recent history. Though international response had come only from the Conservative Party of Solentia, each of the government entities in the nation was paying attention, and each of them despised the death that had come, and was still to come, from the situation.

So it had been decided.
Solentia would try, it had to try. As a nation so devoted to isolation for 600 years, Solentia had sat through war, death, and genocide, unwilling to stop the suffering. But now the focus of the nation had shifted. Solentians were embarrassingly aware of the difference that a nation's voice could make, and they were no longer willing to keep silent as people died. And so the Conservatives had offered, with the blessing of the nation, to host peace talks that had been promised but never organized.
The Selucians and Badarans were invited to Halion to discuss, one last time, avoiding war. No one knew if the nations would show, but it had to be tried. Majatra must not see war between its states.

Signed,
the Government of the Federal Republic of Solentia

Announcement from the Government of the Federal Republic of Solentia

This press message was released by the Government of the Federal Republic of Solentia.

Conservatives 'outraged' at Axis 'warmongering' as Selucian-Badaran Crisis becomes war

AURORIA, SELUCIA - The international political balance has been tenuous at best recently, with the Axis alliance losing the confidence of its member-nations amidst calls from across Terra for the organization's leaders to share the wealth that they have accumulated at the expense of their underlings.

But recently, the Axis has done just the opposite.

While waiting ages for promised Axis mediation, an already tense situation between Selucia and Al'Badara has exploded into full on war with the execution of Badaran ambassador to Selucia Talal Hannad. Hannad was detained by the Selucian government following his mother country's holding war games extraordinarily close to Selucian waters, an act which itself was done in response to Selucian exportation of Muslims and threats against Al'Badara following alleged Badaran financing of Muslim terrorists.

Talal Hannad is dead because of Axis failures.

Conservative Party Senator Grant Randall, an outspoken anti-Axis proselytizer in Solentian politics, spoke after the Selucian announcement of Hannad's death.

"This is the most devastatingly sad event of our times. Ambassador Hannad's death is a tragedy. I pray for his family and for his friends, and I pray for the poor souls who have been condemned to die in the days to follow, doomed by failed Axis diplomacy which lead to Mr. Hannad's death.

"Throughout the crisis, Terra has seen and been outraged as the Axis have dragged their feet throughout the diplomatic process. Talks were promised, and never came. As Selucia and Badara spiraled headlong toward war, where was Zardugal, where was Luthori, where was Rutania? These imperialistic war mongers, who pride themselves on securing the Bauer Canal, didn't do a thing to stop this death, and now they've pulled the plug.

"By ejecting Selucia, it is apparent that the Axis have found their voice, though they will not speak the words themselves. They say this: 'we support you Al'Badara' while at the same time they say 'You may die now as you see fit, Selucia.'

"What has Selucia done but respond to the events which the Axis allowed to occur? Mr. Hannad needn't have been killed, if the conference had happened as promised, he never would have been. And now they've killed him, because the Axis abandoned them. Neither side is right in this crisis, and the Axis is both sides.

"It is clear now what must happen. Badara, while it mourns the death of a national hero, should not be hasty to act with aggression. They must recognize that it is not Selucia who is responsible for this tragedy, but it is the Axis. They must withdraw from the Axis and peace talks MUST be held. Solentia will host these talks, god willing, if both sides still have any hope to avoid devastation and war. I CALL ON ALL NATIONS OF TERRA ONCE AGAIN, REFUSE THE UNWIELDY AND UNHELPFUL AXIS DOMINATION. WITHDRAW FROM THE GLOBALIST ALLIANCE AND STAND FOR YOURSELVES.

"People of Selucia and Al'Badara: We will hold peace talks in Halion, Solentia, if you will come. We will guarantee the safety of delegates from each nation, but we will allow no delegate of the meddling Axis to cross our borders. These talks will be held as they ought to be: immediately, Selucian to Badaran, with Majatran mediation! I beg of you, please devote yourselves once more to the preservation of life in the face of hatred. Do not be fooled by the Axis machine into quarreling amongst yourselves! Throw off the chains which bind you and be free!"

Signed,
the Government of the Federal Republic of Solentia

New Year's Day 2950 Celebrations

An eventful year has come to an end. Looking back, we see that many people have reason to consider themselves fortunate - while many others can rightfully say that chance has not been on their side. The same is true of countries: we've seen good times and bad across the world. But, as we pass into the year 2950, the whole world is united in hope for the future. Will the new year be as good as the last? Or as bad? Or will our fortunes change? Those questions remain open, but this year, as always, their answers will often depend on the actions of our politicians and leaders.
