The same is true of countries: we've seen good times and bad across the world. But, as we pass into the year 2109, the whole world is united in hope for the future. Will the new year be as good as the last? Or as bad? Or will our fortunes change? Those questions remain open, but this year, as always, their answers will often depend on the actions of our politicians and leaders.
