Description[?]:
The Liberal Democratic Party stands for the creation of an open society and against all forms of prejudice and vested interest. The hallmark of liberalism is the faith in places in people and communities. Liberals want everyone, not just the wealthy and the most able, to have the maximum opportunity. The Party was formed in 2814. The LDP descended from the New Liberal Party which served in various cabinets between its formation in 2484 to 2512. Liberal Democratic Leadership 2814 - 2818 : Richard Kingston 2818 - 2830 : Michael Faulkner 2830 - 2840 : Leo Burns 2840 - 2853 : Tony Manson 2853 - 2880 : Noah Wright-Parker (Prime Minister March 2877 - Nov 2877) 2880 - 2883 : Benjamin Crooke 2883 : James Goodwin June 2816 : The party has unprecedented success in its first election, achieving 38 seats and 12.71% of the vote. January 2818 : The party votes overwhelmingly to elect former candidate for Head of Government, Michael Faulkner, as the new leader of the Liberal Democratic Party. June 2823 : The party increase their seats for the third election running, achieving 19.98% of the vote. August 2830 : After 12 years as leader of the party, Michael Faulkner retires, leaving a fine legacy. Leo Burns, former candidate for Head of Government, takes over as leader and proclaims "a new era in centre-left politics. We will ensure a liberal future for all Rutanians". March 2837 : A momentus day for the LDP as 3 senators enter the cabinet of President Jenkins in positions of Finance, Justice and Education & Culture. LDP pass the historic Manson Education Reforms 2838, establishing a national education system. January 2840 : After a poor showing in the elections Leo Burns resigns as leader of the LDP. He is replaced by Education Minister Tony Manson. October 2851 : LDP Senators Alan Gammage (Internal Affairs), Steve Anderson (Health & Social Services) & Amanda Honey (Food & Agriculture) join President Vandermark's cabinet. April 2853 : Noah Wright-Parker is elected as the new LDP leader after Tony Manson retires from professional politics. Senator Manson will be most remembered for his commitment to educational reforms whilst Minister for Education and Culture and, as leader of the party, successfully returning the LDP to the forefront of Rutanian poltics. April 2877 - Following a hugely successful election, LDP Senators Melson (Foreign Affairs), Sommers (Education), Holton (Finance) & Honey (Food & Agriculture) join President English's cabinet. Noah Wright-Parker is Rutania's new Prime Minister. November 2877 - Following comprehensive constitutional change written by leading members of the LDP and DPR, Noah Wright-Parker stands aside as Prime Minister. Although only in office for little over six months, it was a time of radical change in Rutania. Following the re-shuffle, LDP MP's hold six cabinet positions. September 2880 - Wright-Parker, longest serving LDP leader, retires from politics and is replaced by his deputy Benjamin Crooke, a former journalist and author. |
