Nation[?]: Jelbék H'ánknstat (Jelbe)
Seats[?] in Bltmojad Knzsrlji Vezr (Council of Royal Advisors)[?]: 0
Color[?]:
Description[?]:
Ideology: Social democracy, social liberalism, progressivism, center-left ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Common Factions: Social Democrats: The oldest and original faction, promoting government programs and regulations for the good of the common people. Tend to emphasize economic policies, which involve regulations and policies that lean towards socialism. Believe in liberal social policies, and promoting environmental protection. However sometimes willing to compromise if necessary. Centrists: Moderate members, promoting more economic freedom than Social Democrats, and some restrictive social policies, where they sometimes hold more conservative views. Calling for more compromise and bipartisanship. Progressives: Similar to the Social Democrats, but more concerned with social policies and protecting nature/the environment. Third Way: Believes in policies from different parts of the political spectrum, willing to compromise, and tends to combine different ideas of common ideologies. May overlap or sometimes synonymous with centerists and other factions in the SDP, but some have a unique identity. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Social Democratic Party (the SDP for short) is a center-left party (currently the minority) that stands for social democracy, social liberalism, and progressivism. We would like the government to make sure everyone is able to have a successful life. We believe that it is the government's responsibility and purpose to help the people as much as possible, even if it is at the expense of businesses. However, we support businesses that treat their workers well and help society. We promote rationality and common sense, and social programs, and extending civil liberties for all. We support the establishment of a presidential republic in Jelbania, and the prevention of tyranny. We also support the official establishment of a Supreme Court, thus creating a three-branch government. We oppose all forms of unjust governments, that are not accountable to its people. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Key People of the Social Democratic Party: Party Leaders: Benjamin Kirkson (2854 – 2903) Henry McLanders (2903 – 2925) Newton L. Baychern (2925 – 2937) Olivia Turnman (2937 – 2943) John Reighton (2943 – 2952) Mark Schlays (2952 – 2962) Alexander Contel (2962 – 2965) Eric Patslen (2965-2977) Lawrence Eisman (2977-2987) Mason Oswalds (3066-3082) Ted Hyngelkai (3082 – 3089) George Patslen(3256 - present) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just some of our Positions: Civil Rights: While majority rule is important, minority rights need to be protected. We oppose tyranny of the majority. We oppose discrimination based on gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion/personal beliefs, income, or national origin. We oppose all segregation. We believe that Jelbania should live in a color-blind society, where looks do not matter. Health care: We support national health care to ensure everyone is healthy. Religion: We support a complete separation of religion and the state and religious freedom. We oppose the establishment of an official state religion or belief system. Environment: It is one of the most important tasks to make sure Jelbania takes care of the environment. We support regulations. Economy: We support regulation by government, but still a free economy. Abortion/Euthanasia: We are pro-choice and wish to have both legalized, but encourage contraception, adoption and abstinence as alternatives to abortion. Education: We believe in expanding and improving public education. Military: We are pacifist and encourage diplomacy over war and only wish to use our military for defense. Death Penalty: We oppose the death penalty on grounds of suffering, injustice and effectiveness. Centralization: While we oppose too much centralization that gives the central government too much power (thus creating a tyranny), but we believe that the central government should be relatively strong to make good decisions for the country as a whole, and to prevent anarchy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- History: 2854 – Party founded (estimate). 2864 – First SDP lawmakers elected. 2900 – Party gains a majority of seats for the first time, and a supermajority as well. 2903 – First SDP Cabinet is formed. 2987 – SDP disbanded for the next eighty years. 3066 – SDP forms again. 3256 – SDP reformed after many years of inactivity. Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action. |
Random quote: "No one today can afford to be innocent, or indulge himself in ignorance of contemporary governments, politics and social orders. The national polities of the modern world maintain their existence by deliberately fostered craving and fear: monstrous protection rackets. The 'free world' has become economically dependent on a fantastic system of stimulation of greed which cannot be fulfilled, sexual desire which cannot be satiated and hatred which has no outlet except against oneself, the persons one is supposed to love, or the revolutionary aspirations of pitiful, poverty-stricken marginal societies like Cuba or Vietnam. The conditions of the Cold War have turned all modern societies - communist included - into vicious distorters of man's true potential." - Gary Snyder |
