Description[?]:
Party Description: The Free Thought and Progress Party does its best to remain moderate and centrist on most issues facing the country of Kalistan. The Party understands that a strong central government is necessary in order to provide for all citizens of Kalistan. In other areas, the Party leans leftward due to a large contingent of Leftist and Progressive party members, eager to see a different option from the current slate. The few conservative "Free-Thinkers" provide a counterweight in order to keep the Party on middle ground. Debate and compromise are two important facets of the Free Thought and Progress Party. History: The Free Thought and Progress Party was founded in 3137 in order to try and break the gridlock of a do-nothing two-party state. Building grassroots support throughout Kalistan, Party Chairman and Co-Founder Nelson R. Burton worked tirelessly to gather candidates in preparation for the party's first ever election in 3140. In that election, Party candidate and Vice-Chair Jakob Ritter made it to the 2nd round of voting only to lose with 41.5% of the vote. This loss was overshadowed by the success of the national party slate which garnered 29.1% of the national vote giving it 221 seats in the national legislature. In 3144, the aging Ritter again lost the Presidential election, but this time earning 46% of the vote. The party maintained its success in the national elections, losing only one seat. This success allowed the party to maintain its coalition cabinet as well as the position of Prime Minister. In 3147, history was made. Following the death of perennial candidate Jakob Ritter, longshot businessman candidate Liam B. Lipton swept through the primaries and won the general election. The first FTaPP President was accompanied by 272 representatives in the People's Assembly. In 3150, President Liam Lipton was re-elected with 60% of the national vote, easily outpacing his opponent. In the legislative elections, the Free Thought and Progress Party unfortunately lost several seats, dropping its voting bloc to 237. Important Party Figures: Nelson R.
