Description[?]:
The Democratic Socialist Front aims to promote interventionist economic policies within the Commonwealth of Rutania. We are committed to environmental causes and support efforts towards a cohesive federal Rutanian nation. Furthermore, we shall fight for open government, constitutional reform, progressive approaches to social issues such as sexuality and drugs, and strongly support human rights and civil liberties. Our party will aim to appeal to voters opposed to untrammelled government power and who wish to have alternative views aired in parliament and media. The party will maintain a platform of participatory democracy, with policies supporting proportional representation and citizen-initiated referenda. Many important internal issues (such as electoral preselection and leadership) will be decided by direct postal ballot of the membership. Although policies are theoretically set in a similar fashion, parliamentarians will generally have extensive freedom in interpreting them. We shall strive to work towards the implementation of the following policy outline: Energy: -promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency -opposition to uranium mining and nuclear power and opposition to construction of new hydro-electric dams for energy production. -preparation for peak oil -promotion of a "sustainable" approach to water management Infrastructure: -public transport expansion -opposition to construction of dams for water supply -construction of a high speed rail links Foreign Policy: -Abolition of the existing world trade organisations -ending all of Rutania's Defence Treaties unless they can be brought into line with Party views on Rutania's national interest -opposing all war in general -support for independence movements around the world -support for some armed intervention -support for human rights in other nations Bioethics and Family Policy: -qualified support for voluntary euthanasia -support for same-sex marriage -free gender reassignment surgery for those born with an "intersex condition" Taxation: -advocate an increase in the company tax rate to 33% and the creation/increase in a Mineral Resource Rent Tax; a new top marginal tax rate of 50%; the introduction of estate duties; a tax on foreign currency transactions; that family trusts be taxed as "companies"; the introduction of road congestion charges; and elimination of fringe benefit tax concessions for cars Immigration: -support for refugees and opposition to mandatory detention of asylum seekers. -support a low population in Rutania -the maintanance of more open borders. Law reform: -Review relationship between the exclusive ownership of property and exclusive use of its resources -regulated use of cannabis for medical purposes -support trials of state-supplied heroin on prescription Presidents: Margeret Stratton (3213-3221) Margeret Stratton* (3230-3233) Harry Lynch (3233- ) Leadership: Lester Lynch (3207-3212) Margeret Stratton (3212-3222) Harry Lynch (3222-3230) Margeret Stratton (3230-3233) Harry Lynch (3233-3234) Ministers: Head of Government Lester Lynch (3213-3217) Harry Lynch (3217-3233) Alice Stratton (3233-3234) Foreign Affairs Eric Cohen (3213-3217) Anthony Dawkins (3217-3222) Internal Affairs David Gillmore (3213-3217) Rachel Colvin (3217-3222 ) Margeret Stratton (3222-3234) Justice Harry Lynch (3222-3234) Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Dawkins (3213-3217) Education and Culture Rachel Colvin (3213-3217) Science and Technology Gary Boutieo (3213-3217) Heather Holt (3217-3222) Food and Agriculture Anthony Dawkins (3222-3234) *Returned to Presidency after having lost in 3221 |
