Description[?]:
The Zardic Labour Party was established in October 3341 to be the political arm of the trade union and organised labour movements - more specifically, it was creating to ensure there would be a centre-left party on the ballot in that year's parliamentary gneeral election. Following the decline of other socialist parties in the preceding decades and the rise of the New Democratic/Conservative Republican two party system. The foundation of the ZLP was motivated by fierce opposition within the union movement to the NDP's economic liberalism and the CRP's social conservatism. According to the party constitution, adopted at its founding conference in 3341, Labour is "an ethical socialist party concerned with promoting the welfare of working people and the basic equality of all Human beings". Its membership is a mix of affiliated trade unions and private citizens who subscribe to its ideology; the trade unions maintain considerable influence and power over its internal organisation and policies, electing half of the delegates to the party's annual conference. Its headquarters are located in Red Creek, Saqueya State, at Transport House. The first resolution adopted by the 3341 conference, titled simply "On the Labour Movement", outlines the core principles of the Labour Party, which can be summarised thusly: (1) Reversing the NDP's mass privatisation of public services; (2) Rebalancing of the relationship between workers and private enterprise in favour of the former; (3) Devolution of power to local government wherever possible and reasonable; (4) Developing a social market economy with the State as a strong regulatory force to curb the excesses of private enterprise; (5) Increasing the minimum wage year on year, every year; (6) Promoting and empowering communities over individuals; (7) Defending the fundamental rights of all Human beings; (8) Embracing an enlarged State as a force for good in society and the economy. The ZLP's leadership consists of three national bodies: *the General Membership Council, an 85-member committee that meets every quarter to represent the interests of ordinary party members; 30 seats are reserved for union delegates *the National Executive Committee, which is the 40-member administrative body of the party responsible for the day-to-day management of its affairs under the direction of the General Secretary; 17 seats are reserved for union delegates, 17 for regular party members and 6 for congressional deputies; *the Congressional Labour Party, which consists of all the party's elected members of Congress, the leader of which is also the leader of the Labour Party. PARTY LEADERS 1. Denise Simpson (3341 - Present) A trade unionist and former employment lawyer, Denise Simpson was one of the founding members of the ZLP and was elected to lead it at its inaugural congress by a margin of 675 - 324 delegates over co-founder Michael Stewart. She will lead the Labour Party into its first parliamentary election in December 3341. |
