Description[?]:
The Benevolent Totalitarian Party used to be a major party in the parliamentary politics of Gaduridos. For over a decade, however, it was kept out of power by its political isolation: Since all other parties in Gaduridos fundamentally disagreed with the BTP's views, it was marginalized and kept out of any governing coalitions. Meanwhile, the BTP supported calls for autonomy or independence in its stronghold region of Marligantos. After a series of increasingly hostile clashes with the democratic parties in Gaduridos, the BTP finally concluded that armed resistance was the only way to achieve its vision for a totalitarian future: http://aiglesrv.no-ip.info:8080/particracy/main/viewbill.php?billid=5124 Part of the original BTP went into exile in Kalistan and founded a new BTP there: http://aiglesrv.no-ip.info:8080/particracy/main/viewparty.php?partyid=455 Those who stayed behind in Gaduridos regrouped themselves as the Front for the Liberation of the Fatherland (FLF), under the command of General Ben Franco, and continued to fight an armed guerrila struggle against the ruling parties. Eventually, the BTP in Kalistan won the presidency there and a full-scale war erupted between Kalistan and Gaduridos for the liberation of Marligantos. The war was going well for Kalistan, who had landed troops in Marligantos and was fighting side by side with the FLF, but then the BTP in Kalistan lost the elections and the new liberal government agreed to a ceasefire, ending the war in a humiliating defeat for Kalistan. The FLF, for its part, made a heroic last stand in the port city of Azban. Here is the story of that last stand in more detail: In Marligantos, Kalistani soldiers and FLF partisans held the port city of Platograd (formerly Azban) for months in the face of an unrelenting onslaught by the Gaduridan Army. The entire might of the FLF had been involved in supporting the Kalistani landings in north Marligantos and the inland offensive that followed; the FLF's knowledge of the terrain and experience in jungle warfare had played a vital role in the conquest of Azban. But the FLF had also taken serious losses in the offensive, and, more importantly, it seemed every last man in the FLF had been involved in the conquest of Azban and was now garrisoned in the city, because the FLF high command never mentioned anything about having forces behind the enemy lines surrounding Azban. During the 5 months of joint FLF-Kalistani occupation, Azban was renamed Platograd and re-organized into a miniature totalitarian state. The FLF even established a Bureau for the Investigation of Unpatriotic Activities modeled after the one that had functioned on a national scale in Gaduridos in 2047, and hundreds of supporters of the present Gaduridan government were arrested and executed. Meanwhile, Kalistani forces were mainly deployed around the outskirts of the city, and, partially due to poor morale, they began to cave in to the mounting pressure of the Gaduridan army. The front line remained more or less stable, however, until the Kalistani ceasefire was announced. Within hours, the defences around Azban/Platograd were in disarray. Most Kalistani soldiers simply surrendered to the Gaduridans, knowing that the war was over. Some, however - particularly those soldiers who were BTP supporters - chose to fight on side by side with the FLF. But the Kalistani high command did surrender, and the FLF took full control of the city. They fought bravely and ferociously, inflicting more than twice the number of casualties they took, but, even so, they were losing ground. Block by block, the Gaduridan army inched forward, even as the fighting caused the city to collapse into rubble around them. Without Kalistani support, the situation was hopeless for the FLF. They eventually found themselves surrounded and barricaded in the waterfront district, where they decided to make their final stand. They still held a television station, which was used by General Ben Franco to make his final statement to the nation and the world. "Brothers, sisters, my countrymen! The war is lost. My men and I have done our duty to you, and fought as best we could for your future. With help from our Kalistani allies, we were on the verge of victory. But we were betrayed, stabbed in the back. Even while the bravest Kalistanis gave their lives for the liberation of Marligantos, a gathering of whores and traitors took power in Kalistan, and, out of cowardice or pure evil, surrendered to the corrupt dogs who rule Gaduridos. Thus Kalistan was unable to continue the good fight by our side, and here we are now... But do not blame the people of Kalistan, brothers, for it is not their fault! Many of them supported our war and still do, while many others were deceived by the lies of the whores and traitors to vote for the end of this conflict. One day they will see through the web of lies, and then Kalistan shall rise again - and so may Marligantos. What of us, then? We, the warriors of the Front for the Liberation of the Fatherland, shall never surrender. We will not be taken alive. We will build our own funeral pyre and burn upon it, like our ideals will always burn in your hearts. Remember us, brothers! Remember us, and never relent in your struggle for a bright future, a totalitarian future! Our end has come, but one day, perhaps one day soon, others shall rise to take our place. I would write my political testament, but it is not necessary. You know what I stand for, what I fought for, and actions speak louder than words. Farewell, brothers. GLORY TO MARLIGANTOS! GLORY TO TOTALITARIANISM!" With that, the transmission ended. Hours later, a series of large explosions ripped through the waterfront district of Azban, creating a fireball that engulfed the whole neighborhood and set the rest of the city on fire. What became of Ben Franco and the remaining FLF fighters was never known, but it was assumed they perished in the explosions they had themselves set up. |
