Description[?]:

In March 4297 the Konfessionelle Historische Union was founded by a number of dissidents from major political parties, politicians from minor political parties and non-aligned activists. Party members are supportive of a pro-religious political outlook and are typically socially conservative, although split on economic issues. The party draws on the historic Ameliorate traditions of Dundorf and members of the party are mostly also members of the Confessional Ameliorate Church of Dundorf. The party membership is spread across the country, although with particular strength in the region of Oderveld and within the so called "Dundorfian Bible Belt".

In August 4319 the KHU has continually been in government for 20 years, however after the KHU's coalition partners moved in an anti-religion direction the KHU withdrew its positions from government.

=Factions=

There are two primary factions within the KHU, with a smaller number of sub-groups. These are the fundamentalists and the pragmatists.

The fundamentalists believe in creating a religious society in Dundorf and are typically very socially conservative. The pragmatists, who are the majority in the party, believe in creating a system in which Hosians are free to live their lives according to their faith without impacting upon others. Therefore on occasion the KHU will put forward legislation that will impact upon others but the most part KHU representatives are happy to leave each to their own as long as they can maintain a space for Hosians.

On economic matters the party is reasonably united. Although there are some Hosian Socialists and those who believe in the Confessional work ethic (pro-free market), the bulk of the party agree on maintaining the mixed economy in Dundorf, with the state intervening in key sectors such as energy, health and transport, while encouraging the development of private business and allowing a small role for the private sector in health and education.

Factionalism is relatively easy to maintain in the party as party members and supporters are able to preference candidates they support within the party lists submitted in each state during legislative elections.

After the 4300 legislative elections the factions had the following strengths;

Pragmatists - 98 (including the Chancellor Adelar Hertzberg and most other members of the cabinet)
Fundamentalists - 58
Hosian Socialists - 12

After the 4303 legislative elections the factions had the following strengths;

Pragmatists - 87 (including the Chancellor Adelar Hertzberg and most other members of the cabinet)
Fundamentalists - 65
Hosian Socialists - 6

The Pragmatists remained in the majority, but took a hit in the number of members, particularly with the loss of a number of MP's in Kronstein state. The Hosian Socialists also lost a number of members.

After 4306 the Centrists emerged as a faction between the Pragmatists and the Fundamentalists, holding the balance of power in the leadership council and in the legislative party.

As a general rule the Fundamentalists dominate in Overveld where the party is typically more conservative, whereas the Pragmatists dominate in Gayern and Grozvic Muzelbergen. Zarkitsch and Kronstein are swing states for the KHU where their share of the vote fluctuates wildly.

=Pillarisation=

The KHU aims to create a sovereign space for Hosians in general and the Ameliorate and Confessional denominations in particular so that they can operate outside of the secular state but within the rule of law. This includes, for example, supporting Trade Unions for Hosian workers and establishing networks of hospitals, schools, sports clubs and other charities. It is important that Hosians have the space to lead lives according to their conscience without impacting the lives of others and vice versa.

In August 4319 the KHU left coalition government in protest at the anti-religious legislation of the former coalition partners of the KHU. Ewald Höss was the last to resign his position upon the formation of a new cabinet in May 4320. This was the first time that the KHU had been without representation in the government since September 4299.

=Leadership=

As an extra parliamentary party the KHU developed a leadership council of 15 members. However following the election of 4299 it was decided to elect a leader of the legislative faction who was also the de facto leader of the party. Adelar Hertzberg, leader of the pragmatist faction of the party was elected leader of the party. He went on to become head of government in 4301.
