The Party of Labour is a centre-left to left wing party formed among the various union and worker groups to present a centre-left platform in national politics. Ideology: Social democracy Pan-majatranism Internationalism Social liberalism Republicanism Democratic socialism Member Unions and Labor Groups: - Zardic Industrial Workers Union - Longshoreman and Sailors Union - National Service Employees Union - Farm Labor Association - Mine Workers Collective - General Confederation of Trade Unions - National Congress of Unaffiliated Workers Affiliated Civil Society Groups: - Zardic Labor Relations Institute - Centre for a Fair Zardugal - Zardic People's Foundation - Council for International Cooperation The highest body according to the party charter is the Congress of Labor and the People which consists of 500 delegates which is held every four years. Members elect the Central Committee, Steering Committee, approve national nominees for office, and other party executive offices. The Steering Committee of the Congress of Labor is the 50 member group responsible for exercising the duties of the Congress when it is not in session. A nine member Executive Council meets at least weekly to handle party business while a plenary session is held one a year, often in conjunction with the plenary sessions of the Central Committee. The Central Committee of the Party is the main executive body. It consists of 175 members and handles most executive business of the party. The party is broken up into working groups which handle certain aspects and it meets every six months in plenary sessions to report and review its work. - Working Group on National Policy - Working Group on Labor Relations and Representation - Working Group on National Politics and Nominees - Working Group on State and Local Politics - Working Group on Cadre Discipline - Working Group on Student and Youth Participation The Political Bureau of the Central Committee is the 35 member office charged with handling the more routine work of the Committee and executive concerns of the party, outside the scope of the normal committee. The Politburo is headed by a First Secretary who doubles as the Chairman of the Central Committee. The Bureau meets monthly to review its work. - Office of the First Secretary of the Politburo - Office of Political Work and Information - Office of Facilities and Support - Office of Mass Mobilization and Organization - Office of General Affairs - Office of Party Development and Education - Office of Paramilitary Affairs The Politburo Executive Committee (PBEC) is in practice the highest organ of the party and consists of the top party leaders. It sets the executive direction and policy of the party and through its institutions. It consists of 7 members and is headed by its own Chairman, who normally doubles as the First Secretary and the Chairman of the Central Committee. Other Institutions: The People's Armed Militia is the paramilitary arm of the party and under the direct control of the Politburo. It is a lightly armed force of 7,500 that is responsible for the security of party events, property, and personnel. The Politburo currently restricts the PAM from undertaking law enforcement duties but seeks to work closely with law enforcement when applicable. Related to the PAM is the Party Paramilitary Committee (PPC) which is a five member body appointed by the Central Committee which is charged with overseeing the discipline and training of the Militia. |
