Description[?]:

The Imperial Union of Rekindlers (IUR) is a Selucia-wide political organisation, originally charted in Kal Serathi in 2579, as Unlimited Power to Selucia (UPS), from the remnants of the United Conservative Protectionist Party (circa 2450), the Holy Selucian Kleptocratic Party (circa 2360), and the Imperial People's Party (circa 2250). Originally concerning itself only with provincial politics, UPS expanded to the national arena around 2660.

In 2675, the party renamed itself Unlimited Power to Selucia / Rekindlers of the Imperial Faith, after the merger of UPS with the Imperial Church-advocacy group Rekindlers of the Imperial Faith. In 2676, this was changed to Rekindlers of the Homeland Faith / Unlimited Power to Selucia, in light of the current political system.

In 2677, the party was renamed once again the Rekindlers of the Selucian Ascendancy, to signify a move to unify the disparate elements of the party's base.

In 2695, several months after the reformation of the national party, the RSA was re-titled the Imperial Union for Concordance. In 2701, the national title was changed to simply the Imperial Union, to emphasise a focus on national unity. After the next election, we became the Imperial Union of Rekindlers.

- - - - - (III - Policies)

- A geolibertarian approach to agriculture and rural property ownership. In urban environs we support a more flexible approach to property.
- Complete support for the re-establishment of the Imperial Faith as our national religion.
- A complex approach to public morality and civil rights. (we oftentimes support the rights of the collective as much as we do the rights of the individual, but only where necessary.) In this determination we attempt to follow the teachings of the Selucian Religion.
- A pro-animal rights platform: consistent with our overall morality-based ideology.
- A non-corporate perspective in relation to scientific and economic advancement. (i.e., we place the rights of Selucia-as-a-whole above the rights of bodies corporate.)
- Open market operations in most areas of commerce and labour, with appropriate regulatory measures.
- A strong opposition to mixing private and public sectors and moneys. So we oppose governmental subsidies and governmental competition with private bodies.
- A strong public sector devoted to the welfare of the people.
- Opposed to floating currency. Support either a gold-standard or commodity-basket fixed national currency, or a system of private currencies issued by banks according to similar rules.
- A strongly pro-national safety and homeland security approach. The inviolability of the islands cannot be breached: we must defend ourselves against foreign incursion - whether military or cultural.
- An anti-internationalist ideology. We oppose the entry of foreigners into Selucia 90% of the time, and are principally opposed to permenant residency for non-nationals.

- - - - - (IV - Historical Structure [RSA])

The RSA is a federal party composed of two groups which appoint a joint leadership cadre. These groups are Unlimited Power to Selucia (UPS), a singularly-political group predicated on part-statist, part-rationalist sentiments, and the Enkindlers of the Homeland Faith (originally the Rekindlers of the Imperial Faith), a jointly political and religious group supporting the re-establishment of the Imperial Church throughout Selucia.

RSA is headed by its Victory Council (VC), the Deliverers of Selucia's Renewal (DSR) and the Chiefs of the Enkindlers of the Faith (CEF). These three, concurrently, determine the policy of the merged organisation. The DSR was previously the executive council of USP; the CRF was the chief spiritual and advisory body of the RIF.

The DSR is a co-opting (self-appointing) body: the composition of which originally comprised the founder of UPS, Nava Sudhria Ke'Saegir-Magna, her brother, Appian Sudhron Ke'Saegir-Magnus, and the principal adviser to their household (House Ke'Saegid-Magnon), Nayara Corolias.

The DSR current composition is secret, excepting the founding members. It is the DSR which appoints the public leader of UPS: the Chair of the Selucian Renewal (CSR). Currently, the Chair is held by Delquir Acrian; long-time associate of Ke'Saegid-Magnon and effective leader of the faction which was once led by A. Sudhron.

The second-officer of UPS is the Lieutenant to the DSR: chief policy officer for UPS and liaison between the DSR and CSR. The current Lieutenant is Naria Sequoris, standard-bearer for the EHF-sympathisers within the UPS grouping.

The CEF was originally appointed by the general members of the Enkindlers organisation; however, since then, its appointment-authority has passed to the head of the Enkindlers: the High Enkindler of Righteous Action (HERA). Reciprocally, HERAs are appointed by the CEF upon their predecessors retirement. The current High Enkindler is Comaro Usqanon, a long-serving priest and official within the Imperial Church, founding member of the RIF and chief facilitator of the merging of UPS and the RIF.

The second-officer of the RIF is the Convenor of the Chiefs of the Enkindlers (CCE), appointed by the Chiefs collectively and serving as their Speaker and administrator of the RIF. The current CCE is Neltara Missiri; somewhat outspoken opponent of the merger and head of the Chiefs' grouping opposing C. Usqanon.

- - - (IVa, Brief News at Founding)

Thus, upon merger, the UPS/RIF has two concurrent leaders - the Chair of the Renewal and the High Enkindler. This lasted through 2675; but partway through 2676 a unified leadership cadre was created, to cement the connexion between the two organisations. Created by the joint authority of the DSR and the CEF; the Victory Council consists of five members: the Chair of the Selucian Renewal, the Lieutenant to the DSR, the High Enkindler of Righteousness, the Convenor of the Chiefs of the Enkindlers, and the highest leader of the united organisations: the Everchair of Concordance (ECC).

Upon the creation of the Victory Council, Nava Sudhria Ke'Saegir-Magna, the current Chair of the Selucian Renewal, jointly proclaimed with her Lieutenant, the HERA, and his Convenor her ascension to the Everchair. She was, thus, then acknowledged as overall leader of the Rekindlers of the Ascendancy.

- - - - - (V - News, One)

In March 2679, a challenge was mounted to N. Sudhria's leadership during intense intra-party debates on the issue of abortion, which had been raised in the Senate. N. Sudhria's pro-abortion stance, and that of her faction, was opposed by a considerable number of former RIF members, and a small wing in the UPS rump. However, N. Sequoris, Lieutenant to the DSR, was among this group and had broad appeal across the party for her consistency in policy.

N. Sequoris, encouraged to stand for the joint-leadership by the High Enkindler (C. Usqanon), and given freedom to do so by her superior, CSR D. Acrian, elected to challenge N. Sudhria. With the support of both the CSR and the HERA, she could have acceded to the Everchair immediately; however, Usqanon believes a popular vote of the party members would confirm a mandate for a new direction.

Thus, the party members present in Kal Serathi voted over the first week of March 2679 to elect their Everchair. As Usqanon predicted, the result was landslide support for N. Sequoris' bid, and she was immediately made the new Everchair, as N. Sudhria stood down and recused herself from politics indefinitely. D. Acrian immediately gained support from the Deliverers (DSR) to appoint his protege, I. Anistor, as their Lieutenant and member of the Victory Council.

- - - - - (VI - News, Two)

Only 3 years into N. Sequoris's term as Everchair, however, opposition to her leadership grew to such an extent that by January 2683 she had been removed as leader. Problems began in late 2682, when Senators allied to Seraya Mira, well-known for her strong law-and-order stance, began to question the Senatorial leadership of N. Sequoris. Further, whilst her political rise had previously been considered a sign of great talent, her failure to unify the party since her accession - coupled with, in November, her failure to gain the Imperatorship - united previously neutral factions within both UPS and the Enkindlers.

In December, taking the RSA's electoral loss of seats as a sign that Sequoris's leadership was terminal, S. Mira proposed in December the party's now-standard religious-recognition bill, but with an important addition: the re-instatement of religious interpretation of the death penalty. An element of the platform under N. Sudhria, Sequoris had notably devised a 'universal pro-life' policy, under which abortion and capital punishment were opposed (and animal rights strongly supported). The bill, surprisingly, had the support of a majority within the Senatorial Party; it appeared Sequoris had lost the Senators' confidence.

Sequoris was not in the Senate during the introduction of the bill - she was elsewhere, attempting to negotiate early elections with other parties. She returned to her Senatorial chambers only to be informed that the RSA Senators had voted against her leadership in a motion of no-confidence. Without the support of the Senators, the Victory Council had no choice but to appoint Sequoris's successor.

It appeared to most party members - indeed most Senators - that Mira would be appointed the new Everchair, having been acclaimed by so many for her re-alignment of the party platform. However, within the confines of the Victory Council's chambers, Sequoris managed one small, final political achievement. The Victory Council did not appoint Mira to the Everchair; rather, Invictra Anistor, fiery lieutenant to the DSR and D. Acrian's enforcer, acceded to the position. Acrian and, by association, Anistor, were considered 'the face of the party' - totally loyal to the party platform, whatever it was or had been. Anistor, then, though not a member of the hard-liners, was well-positioned to gain the support of the majority-mainstream of the party. Once again, another of Acrian's following, Telyna Ni'Saera, was made Lieutenant to the DSR.

One final event shook the party before the year was over: Comaro Usqanon resigned as High Enkindler the day after the Council's meeting. Whether pressured to do so, or of his own volition, it was clear that Acrian & Anistor had no rivals to their authority. N. Missiri, longtime Convenor of the Chiefs of the Enkindlers, was appointed to his position, & Alyria Juroni was appointed her CCE.

- - - - - (VII - News, Three)

In late 2689, the Rekindlers recused themselves from national politics for an indefinite period of time; the federal branch being dissolved, and coordination between the regional branches devolving to a National Adjudicator - Delquir Acrian, former nationwide leader of Unlimited Power to Selucia. The former Everchair of the federal party, Invictra Anistor, has been appointed Roving Lieutenant to the Adjudicator, assisting D. Acrian - her mentor - in his efforts to ensure a consistent ideology throughout the regional organisations. The national Enkindlers will continue its religious mission; while UPS Nationwide has been dissolved simultaneously with its gestalt.

- - - - - (VIII - News, Four)

In late 2964, the national RSA was reformed from the provincial bases. Invictra Anistor and Delquir Acrian remain the senior-most leaders of the party, and a Provisional Directorate has been appointed - with the previous Victory Councillors all members. A Director has been appointed by the RSA's three Federal Districts - Kal Serathi, Shadar, and Korgana/Uleroth - by joint agreement of the UPS and EHF leaders in the District. (However, it remains to be seen whether the original dual-party structure will be retained, or whether the Enkindlers and UPS will merge to better facilitate unity in the organisation.)

D. Acrian and I. Anistor are members of the directorate without provincial mandate, and serve as overall directors of the national cause. It should be noted that Seraya Mira, once blocked from the leadership by former leader Naria Sequoris' spite, has entered the Directorate as Director for Shadar. For the Enkindlers, Neltara Missiri has been appointed 'High Director for the Enkindlers'; while her former deputy, Alyria Juroni, has been made Director for Korgana/Uleroth.

Appian Sudhron, son of the founder (hereafter known as Appian Sudhron Magnus), has been appointed to the senior leadership, as Director for Selucian Unity - broadly tasked with assisting in the unification of the wings of UPS and the Enkindlers in the Provinces. Further, two Deputy Directors - Partin Narastor and Appian Corolias - have the task of 'smoothing out' the party-platform and coordinating federal campaign funding.

- - - - - (VIII - News, Five)

In May 2695, after several months of discussion, the Rekindlers' Federal Directors, with the support of a clear majority of the regional parties, announced the federal RSA was to be re-named the Imperial Union for Concordance (IUC). Further, around two-fifths of the regional branches of UPS and the Enkindlers decided to merge. Many opted to use the new title for their own purposes also, though some chose other names (e.g., Concordance for Auroria, Goldarian Union for Concordance, Rekindlers of the North-West [Shadar]).

Another quarter (roughly) of the UPS/RSA regional alliances formed permanent 'Unity Councils', to coordinate political activity, similar to how the old national UPS/RHF coalition was structured. (Along with regional branches which had already adopted either of the above models, this meant that almost three-quarters of the regional groups of UPS and the EHF are now in united in some fashion.)

The provisional & non-democratic nature of the interim IUC leadership means there is no significant upheaval currently; however, several key decisions will need to be made at some stage to determine how the regional parties will affiliate to the IUC, given the continued existence of the national Enkindlers and the dissolution of UPS Nationwide.

The Imperial Union for Concordance has decided retain the authority of the Provisional Directorate until the next election. Polling by the Deputy Director organising the national campaign, Partin Narastor, has indicated high chances of regaining a presence in the Senate. A more concrete IUC leadership structure is being conceived by Deputy Director Appian Corolias, in consultation with experts.

- - - - - (IX - Structure of the IUC)

Sometime after the elections of 2697, a formalised federal structure for the IUC was decided upon, based on concepts provided by Deputy Provisional Director Appian Corolias. The Provisional Directorate was replaced with a body similar in composition: the Federal Commission of the Union (FCU). The Commission consisted of members (Commissioners) appointed in the following manner:

- A District Commissioner for each of the IUC's Federal Districts, appointed by the District's Victory Council. The District Commissioners' role shall encompass all duties previously held by District Chairs of Concordance.

- The High Enkindler of Righteous Action (leader of the national Enkindlers), serving as Enkindler Commissioner.

- Two Mistresses/Masters of the Commission, appointed by the National Congress or its Conference. The chairmanship of the Commission will rotate every month between them. The Masters/Mistresses shall serve as joint federal leaders of the IUC, and one shall always be IUC candidate for the Imperatorship, unless by unanimous decision of the other Commissioners. One Master/Mistress shall be 'High Master/Mistress', as designated by the Congress on appointment based on seniority.

- Up to two Unity Commissioners. The National Congress or its Conference shall appoint one. A second will only be appointed on the joint approval of all six aforementioned Commissioners (District, Enkindler, Masters/Mistresses). Their role is to maintain unity between the various local branches, the Districts, and the federal party.

- A non-voting Deputy Commissioner, appointed by the Mistresses/Masters, to serve as day-to-day administrator of the general federal organisation.

- A non-voting Under Commissioner, appointed by the Mistresses/Masters, to serve as head of the Union's security, communications, information, transit and protective operations (SCITP).

Beside the FCU, with overall executive authority, there are several organs of federal-party governance. Principally, these are the National Congress, its Conference, and the Federal Office.

The Deputy Commissioner's administration and the Under Commissioner's administration are, collectively, the Federal Office, which comprises the entirety of the federal branch. The Federal Office reports to the Mistresses/Masters of the FCU, and is responsible for management of campaigns, formulating the national party platform (from the resolutions of the Congress), coordination between Districts/local branches and the Enkindlers, protection of the Commissioners and senior party politicians, coordination with sympathetic interest groups and similarly-minded community groups, dispersal of federal funding to local branches, and governance of Union-led institutes of policy ('think tanks').

In general matters, the Federal Office is considered to be led by the Deputy Commissioner, assisted by the Under Commissioner. However, in relation to 'SCITP' matters (notably security), the Federal Office is known as the Party Security Office, of which the Under Commissioner is considered leader, and the Deputy Commissioner his associate.

The National Congress is the biennially-appointed supreme deliberative body of the federal party. It consists of the Federal Commissioners, the Deputy and Under Commissioner, and several hundred delegates appointed by local branches, the national Enkindlers, and the Federal Districts. At its yearly sessions, it proclaims the broad direction of the party to the nation, generally in the form of manifesto or platform, to be formalised by the Federal Office with consultation with the party's Senators. It also appoints the Federal Commission and may amend the Charters of the IUC or its Basic Bylaws.

However, while the Congress is theoretically-supreme, the Interim Conference of the National Congress (ICNC), which meets monthly, is vested with all the powers of the Congress, save the ability to change the Congress's composition via amendment of the Charters. The ICNC is appointed by the Congress by proportional-representation voting, excluding the Commissioners; however, one Commissioner or the Deputy Commissioner presides over meetings of the ICNC.

- - - - - (X - IUC News, One)

The original Federal Commission consisted mainly of members of the Provisional Directorate, with some new leaders. Notable changes include Senator Seraya Mira's self-chosen exclusion, the elevation of Delia Sequoris - niece of former Everchair Naria Sequoris - as Shadar's District Commissioner, and the promotion of Vanyr Sudhron, distant cousin to Appian Sudhron (and Nava Sudhria, former Everchair) to the highly sensitive position of Under Commissioner.

However, a significant change occurred in early 2699. Delquir Acrian, longtime stalwart of the IUC, since its inception and previously with UPS, retired from public life. Widely considered to be the human face of the Union, in such high regard was he held by members, his resignation was a cause for much sadness throughout the nation. In his final speech as leader of the Union, he enjoined all supporters of a strong Selucia to support Invictra Anistor and her Commission through the coming years, but voiced no public opinion on a successor. Acrian and Anistor enjoyed a close relationship, considered akin to a father-daughter bond by many close to them, and it is likely he would angle to ensure one of her supporters was to succeed him as Master or Mistress of the Union.

Several days after his resignation, the Conference of the National Congress held a special assembly, chaired by Anistor herself, to elect a new second Master/Mistress of the Commission. Held behind closed doors, the entire meeting was secret. However, a Spokesman for the Conference announced it had been pleased to appoint Alyria Juroni as the FCU's new Mistress. Juroni, a progressive member of the Enkindlers, is a moderate within the IUC and is considered 'faction-less' - on friendly terms with several key leaders, most notably Neltara Missiri, the High Enkindler, and Telyna Ni'Saera, District Commissioner for Kal Serathi and D. Acrian's former deputy in the RSA.

- - - - - (XI - IUC News, Two)

In February 2701, Neltara Missiri, High Enkindler since 2682, announced her intention to resign at the end of the month. Her successor was the Convenor of the Chiefs of the Enkindlers, the second senior-most member of the national Enkindlers, Sura Corolias (double-cousin to Appian Corolias, Deputy Commissioner).

In March 2701, immediately subsequent to the annual meeting of the National Congress, the Imperial Union for Concordance announced it was re-naming itself, on a national level, the Imperial Union (IU). This initiative, backed by A. Juroni and new High Enkindler S. Corolias, was, according to a press release, 'designed to place greater import on our focus of unity at a national, or Imperial, scale - the emphasis being on whole-of-Empire harmony.'

- - - - - (XII - Imperial Union)

The IU announced in July 2702 that Alyria Juroni, not Invictra Anistor, would be candidate for Imperatrix at the next elections. Anistor, in a statement, wrote of the 'dire need for a rekindling of the Selucian spirit, which shall begin with renewed leadership in the rekindler-vanguard itself.' Juroni, deputy leader of the Enkindlers (Convenor of the Chiefs of the Enkindlers, CCE) before her appointment as Federal Mistress of the Union, is generally considered a member of the radical wing of the Enkindlers, sometimes considered in opposition to Anistor's dominant Acrianite faction. She is strongly supported by Sura Corolias, the High Enkindler, whose cousin, Appian Corolias, wields considerable influence over the party leadership as Deputy Commissioner.

- - - - - (XIII, News to 2706)

The Union seat-share in the Imperial Senate increased substantially after the dissolution of the Minarchist Party before the previous elections. However, Deputy Commissioner Appian Corolias expressed disappointed with the gains, saying "we'd hoped for more, but it appears the Free Radicals appealed more the the Minarchist voter-base this electoral cycle."

With the Free Radicals now also dissolved, it is expected by the Commission that further gains will be made, and it is hoping that the Union's candidacy for the Imperatorship may finally prove victorious.
