Description[?]:
The Secular Humanist Party (SHP) was founded in 4420 by Alexander Prince who wanted to create a party based on the philosophy of secular humanism. The SHP believes in a society based on the enlightenment values of reason, science, humanism, and progress. The party's morality is based on Neo-Utilitarianism; "one is to act as to maximize General Human Well-being." Additionally the party supports a view of naturalist determinism, meaning they do not believe in absolute human Free Will. This has implications for the political positions of the party, which can be found below. We strongly oppose pseudoscience and (religious) superstition. ====================================================== Positions Foreign Affairs The Secular Humanist consider good diplomatic relations to be essential for the functioning of our state. We also believe that maintaining some level of diplomatic relations even with states that are greatly opposed to our interests is vital in preventing unnecesaary armed conflict or other diplomatic problems. Internal Affairs: The government should intervene in people's lives as little as possible. However, we believe that some services should be provided to the people to ensure equality of opportunity. We abhor equality of outcome and believe it is destructive for society. Regarding nationalization and privatization, we believe that it should be left to the sector that can do it best. Business should (almost) always be left to the (somewhat regulated) market. Finance Should be healthy. Defence We need a strong functioning military to work as a deterrent for war. We should attempt to use it as little as possible. Justice: At the SHP we are not convinced of the existence of absolute Free Will. We therefore consider all crime to be either the consequence of the fault of the nature or nurture of the criminal, neither of which he or she can control. As the criminal could not have done other than he did, punitive action is unjustified. We should attempt to correct the faults in their nature or nurture with rehabilitation techniques. Infrastructure and Transport This is one of the areas that the market can work properly. However, we need subsidies for the poor so they do not have their freedom of movement restricted. Health and Social Service We do not want to see health care privatized as we believe that the costs of healthcare are warrented and should not be subject to the market. Education and Culture Education is the most important matter in the life of our citizens. It provides them with the necessary tools to function in their lives. We believe Hosianism, nor any other religion has any place in education. Food and Agriculture Quality of food should be ensured by the government. Environment and Tourism It is important to protect the beautiful environment of our nation. Trade and Industy Is too heavily regulated in our country and could be partially privatized to create more opportunity for economic movement. ===================================================== Party Leaders Alexander Prince - 4420 - Current ===================================================== Other major members Robert Lombert (President 4432-Present) Arsinoe Mila (MP and Incest Advocate) |

Random fact: Party candidates for head of state elections are not visible to the public. This means that you cannot see who will run and who will not, which adds another strategic element to the elections. |
