Description[?]:
THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF HUTORI PARTY PHILOSOPHY Re-established in 5301, the Conservative Party has grown to become the country’s largest centre-right political party. At its core, the Conservative Party is a blend of two ideologies: conservatism and libertarianism. Conservatives believe in limited government and support the maintenance of traditional values in a changing world. Libertarians believe in individual freedom and the right to pursue one’s own interests without government interference. The Conservative Party seeks to combine the best of both of these ideologies in order to create an environment in which individual liberty is respected and protected, while at the same time maintaining social stability. The government should be limited in its role, but should also be responsible for providing essential services to the public. The Conservative Party also believes in small government and low taxes, as well as free markets and free trade. The party is also pro-business, supporting entrepreneurship and investment. The Conservative Party also has a strong commitment to personal responsibility and liberty. It supports the right to own private property, as well as the right to keep and bear arms. It also supports the right to free speech and the right to privacy. NOTABLE MEMBERS Prime Minister and Party Founder Hugh Treville (5305 - 5309) Prime Minister Anna Pawcett (5317 - 5321) Leader of the Opposition Richard Spence (5321 - 5325) President (5329 - 5331) and Prime Minister (5331 - Present) Bob Fortunato Prime Minister Fikri el-Saad (5329 - 5331) BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CONSERVATIVE PARTY OF HUTORI UNDER PARTY FOUNDER AND FORMER PRIME MINISTER HUGH TREVILLE Hugh Treville was a visionary political leader whose legacy will continue to shape the future of Hutorian politics. After a period of decline, Treville was determined to revive the ancient Conservative-Libertarian Party. He instead opted the Conservative and Royalist Party, which he believed held the key to Hutorian prosperity by supporting the maintenance of a constitutional monarchy. Still he based much of the party's manifesto on the original manifesto of Winston Bainbridge, a political legend in Hutorian history. Treville's leadership was an immediate success, with the party gaining 88 seats in its first ever election. In the following election, it more than doubled its seats, and won a decisive referendum that maintained the monarchy. This success was credited to Treville's ability to bring together those from different backgrounds and ideologies under the banner of the Conservative and Royalist Party. Unfortunately, the party's fortunes took a turn for the worse after the death of Labour Leader Lexington, who tragically died in a helicopter crash. With the demise of the Conservative's main ally, the party lost and was unable to negotiate a coalition with the Liberal Party and Country City Alliance Party. The Country City Alliance Party's leader's bizarre decision to openly celebrate the death of the Labour Party leader as well as introducing a flurry of homophobic legislation ended any talks of a coalition. Hugh Treville's legacy will live on in Hutorian politics for years to come. He was a true visionary and leader who brought together a diverse range of views and beliefs under the banner of the Conservative and Royalist Party. LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION, ANNA PAWCETT The resignation of Hugh from the party leadership after the party lost 40 seats was a turning point for the party. His departure allowed for a new direction and the rise of Anna Pawcett, whose neo-liberal ideals saw her launch scathing attacks on the Liberal Party for having entered a coalition with the anti-business National Progress Party. Anna Pawcett was a strong proponent of free-market capitalism and economic liberalization, and proposed several policies to this end. However, her uncompromising views, her penchant for authoritarianism and her inability to build bridges with other parties saw her proposals fail to pass. This led to a party coup, in which she was forced to resign. This came as a shock to many, considering that she had successfully led the party to victory in multiple elections, winning many seats. However her extreme views on the economy, which included slashing public spending, reducing taxes and limiting the role of the state, were seen as too radical by many of her own party members. This caused a great deal of internal strife within the party, which ultimately led to Pawcett's resignation. UNDER RICHARD SPENCE In the wake of Anna Pawcett’s resignation, Richard Spence, a committed libertarian, was appointed as the new leader. He went one step further by renaming the party the Conservative and Libertarian Party. Richard Spence was a strong believer in personal freedom and economic freedom, and sought to move the party away from the authoritarianism of Anna Pawcett. Under his leadership, the party began to embrace a more libertarian-leaning ideology and re-focus on smaller government, free markets and individual liberty. Although the party has not seen the same level of success as it did under Hugh’s leadership, Richard Spence and his team were able to gain a foothold in the political landscape. The new Conservative-Libertarian Party was also able to gain the support of some of the more traditional conservatives, who had become disillusioned with the party under Anna Pawcett. Richard Spence's leadership saw the party embrace a more libertarian-leaning ideology, and this allowed them to gain some traction in the political landscape. Having gained 3 seats in the last election, the party entered a coalition with the Liberal Party. Richard Spence failed to win the presidency but Anne Pawcett became Prime Minister and the party acquired six ministries. This was considered a major victory considering the party had been in opposition for eight years. UNDER BOB FORTUNATO The 5325 General Election saw a major turn of events for the Conservative Party, as they lost a significant 29 seats. This led to the resignation of leader Richard Spence, and the party returning to its traditional right-wing roots, by nominating Bob Fortunato, from the far-right faction of the party, as their new leader. This decision has been met with considerable controversy due to Bob's family's ancient lineage and his prior attempts to revive the ancient FFF - Fortunato's Fascist Formation created by his ancestors Paolo and Cesare Fortunato. The FFF's main goal was to turn Hutori into a fascist dictatorship. Bob has caused uproar within the media and Hutorian elite due to his prior national socialist views, however he has since claimed to have adopted more moderate political ideologies. Despite this, many of his fellow party politicians remain distrustful of Fortunato and his democratic values, citing his past as a major reason for their scepticism. The Conservative Party's decision to appoint Bob as party leader has been met with considerable concern, however in the 5325 General Election, the party lost 29 seats, leaving the party with little choice but to turn to the far-right faction of the party in order to revive their flagging fortunes. Under Bob Fortunato, the party won multiple additional seats. For the first time in the party's history, a Conservative Party member was elected President. The party once again entered a coalition with the Liberal Party with Fikri el-Saad becoming Prime Minister. It gained eight ministries. Following a snap election, Bob Fortunato failed to win a second term as President. However, the party gained five seats and it was agreed he would replace Fikri el-Saad, with Fikri continuing as his Deputy. It has been speculated Fikri might run for President one day and will require Bob's endorsement. Bob became the first leader of the party to see the party remain in government for two consecutive terms. He was also the first party leader to hold the offices of Presidency and Prime Minister. |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically |
