PARTY HISTORY Alliance 44 is a political party in the Republic of Endralon. Founded in the early 22th century, it has been a major political organization for various periods of time (2136-2174, 2301-2343, 2557-?). Starting as a centre-left party Alliance 44 soon adopted the pragmatic stance of the major political group of the era, the Society of Sadists, and joined them in their efforts to keep both right and left wing radicals out of power. Either in the cabinet, or in the opposition benches, A44 have always been opposing the swings to extremities of both political wings. Since being refounded in 2557 Alliance 44 considers itself a radical centre party, taking the best values of social liberalism and social conservatism. The largest success of this centrist policy was A44's 2307 landslide election victory (grabbing 53 seats from a total of 100) and the consequent formation of their single-party cabinet led by their legendary leader Johnny Bravo, opposed by the minority Nazis, Fascists and Communists. In 2559 Alliance returned to the legislature of Endralon, grabbing 11% of the seats and accepting the invitation of the ruling liberal coalition to the cabinet. Although Minister of Defence Montgomery Burns failed to push through his Defence Reform of 2559, A44 managed to win the next elections by 32% and formed a two-party coalition with centre-left Chidan Party, with Alliance 44 Chairwoman Betty Boop winning the presidential elections too. After a major loss of seats following the 2564 general elections, the A44-Chidan Party coalition was complemented by the Legally Stoned Democrats, and following the retirement of First Minister Johnny XIV Bravo Old Ginbar regional party leader Victor Urban was appointed as the Head of Government. The 2566 general elections washed away A44's leading position in the legislature, shrinking the size of the party's parliamentary faction to a mere 8% of the seats. However, stalling coalition talks resulted in Mr Urban's cabinet to keep working as a minority government. The severe election defeat was not with a result however, the 2567 General Party Assembly have seen the whole party leadership reshuffled with the single exception of Betty Boop's position of party chairwoman. The freshly elected party leadership decided to change the party's name to Alliance 44 - Radical Centre, thus emphasizing the ideological position of the organization. The new party leaders, such as Curt Kassler, Faustino Koehl and Cesar Sadusky have brought a fresh approach to the party, strenghtening the influence of the grassroot democracy platform at the expense of the power of centre-left party veterans and the monarchist platform marked by the support of Johnny XV Bravo and the Marquis di Alindoria. In 2568 - after more than a year of multilateral coalition talks - A44-RC entered Albert Hoffmann's cabinet of national unity, exluding both the Communists and the Nazis. Ministry of Foreign Affairs went to Curt Kassler, with Cesar Sadusky taking over the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2572 Alliance 44 refused to support a cabinet reshuffle and consequently left the moderate coalition, taking their seats in the opposition benches once again. Five years later, after the fell of the Danneskjold Cabinet, A44 again managed to get a coalition together, led by A44 Kundar Deputy Chairmwoman, First Minister Judy Jetson, with Elmer Fudd taking over Infrastructure and Transport, and Cesar Sadusky getting Science and Technology. |
