TerraVision Song Contest

This treaty was drafted in February 3326 by the Bloc Am Chazak, Am Yedui, Am Libre.

Status: ratification[?]

Each member country submits a song to be performed on live television and then casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the most popular song in the competition. The format of the contest is allowed to changed over the years, though the basic tenets will always be that: participant countries submit songs, which are performed live in a television programme transmitted across the Terravision Network by the TBU simultaneously to all countries. All participating nations must broadcast all participating nations, no matter what political views are between respective nations.

A "country" as a participant is represented by one television broadcaster from that country: typically, but not always but preferably, that country's national public broadcasting organisation. The programme is hosted by one of the participant countries, and the transmission is sent from the auditorium in the host city. During this programme, after all the songs have been performed, the countries then proceed to cast votes for the other countries' songs: nations are not allowed to vote for their own song. At the end of the programme, the winner is declared as the song with the most points. The winner receives, simply, the prestige of having won—although it is usual for a trophy to be awarded to the winning songwriters, and the winning country is invited to host the event the following year.

Each nation will give 2 sets of points (from 1 (least favorite) to 12 (most favorite)). One set of points will be from tele-voting, while the other will be from a jury vote. Tie-breakers will be decided by who has the most 12 points.

The First Five nations that join the treaty will be given the special status of "The First Five". They will be automatically entered into the Final round of TerraVision, along with the hosting nation and/or the winner of the last contest.

Members of the Terran Broadcasting Union are eligible to enter the contest.

OOC: To spice things up, players will be allowed to vote in the contest. Points will be averaged and used as the jury vote. will be used to determine tele-voting.

Random fact: The default rule is that role-play events can only be done with the consent of all of the players in the nation or nations concerned, and that if one of the players withdraws consent for the role-play, then the role-play becomes void. However, there are procedures available to overcome the risk of a role-play being brought down like this. These procedures cannot compel players to actively participate in a role-play, but they do oblige them not to stand in the way of them and to recognise their legitimacy under the rules.

Random quote: "I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality.... I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word." Martin Luther King, Jr.
