Bill: Electronic Privacy, January 2476
Details
Submitted by[?]: Computational Intellect Project
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2476
Description[?]:
If someone has performed "illegal filesharing," really, prosecuting one of hundreds of millions is not going to do anything but punish that one person. Piracy would continue and piracy would grow. Also, we find that entertainment industries have the ability to make EVEN MORE money with despite digital piracy, and in fact, harvesting it. Just because a few companies don't want to put up windmills in the winds of change and take advantage of new opportunities does not mean one out of every few millions should suffer. And as for things such as child abuse, this act is not entirely electronic; there will be other evidence, if not in the child her/himself. So then why should the invasion of electronic privacy be legal? (OOC: technically invading electronic privacy in America takes a court order, but we've all seen just how well THAT works out) |
