| Let's face it when we are talking about gays in the military, we mean men. There are tons of lesbians in the military but no one seem scared of that concept and in fact their masculinity helps their acceptance. Keep in mind that most military positions are not strength oriented. Many military positions are computer analysts, intelligence gatherers, foreign language translators, aircraft and armor mechanics, cooks, etc. Even when you are discussing combat positions, pilots in the Air Force require skill more than masculinity, in the Navy most sailors sit at a computer on a ship, and even in the army a tank person mostly relies on electronics, a front line rifleman does not kill his enemy anymore with knives but how accurate their shooting is, which means a bullet does not alter its course because of the sexual orientation of the shooter. A strong military and defense requires numbers but also intelligent people, not brute strength. |
