Description[?]:
Child Labor is currently regulated by a law approved in 2150 which no longer fits modern Hobrazia : http://80.237.164.51/particracy/main/viewbill.php?billid=34842 The law allows children older than 14 to work provided : 1) [...] All potential employers must check that the child consents at the time of employment [...] 2) [...] The child's legal parent(s)/guardian(s) must give written permission for their child to work. [...] 3) [...] The work may not be during school time or prevent the child attending school. [...] 5) [...] Children may not be paid less than adults doing the same work. [...] While the LPP recognizes that the demands introduced in this bill are an attempt to prevent child forced labor, we also believe that the safeguards introduced are not effective. Each of the safeguard above cited can be proved inefficient with very simple examples : 1) If the child is being coerced to work by the employer or with the employers participation, how will authorities know about the coercion? 2) What if the child is being coerced by the parents/guardians or with their participation? 3) One reason to oppose child labor is because it prevents children from learning. This problem is not exclusive from children who miss school. Allowing children to attend school for a reasonable number of hours and on top of it to work for several hours is physically exhausting for the children, has considerable impact on school marks (stealing away any dream of a good future) and steals away the opportunity for the children to play and grow as children should. This is a sure recipe for unhappy children who will grow to become angry revolted adults. 5) Paying a children the same pay as an adult does not discourage the use of children for labors which require very low skills or for work in familiar businesses. This law is particularly bad because it does not prevent the abuse of children from bad parents which use them as source of income. Farmers and low income families are encouraged by this law to force children to work in family businesses after hours, stealing away their future in the process. The place for children is at school. There they should obtain everything needed to become a responsible productive citizen. This is a full time job. When not at school, a child should be a child : it should play, it should make the homework, it should not be used to complement the income of the family. The problems of low income families are not solved by preventing the children from being successful students. Lets stop child work completely and become a civilized nation. |
