Bill: The Firearms Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Hutori Conservative Council
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2579
Description[?]:
We feel that law-abiding citizens should have the right to bear arms as a fundamental right to self-defence, and for any other legal purpose that they see fit. Guns are inanimate objects; they are simply tools, a means to an end - only in the hands of a criminal to they become a dangerous weapon. And regardless of whether guns are legal or not, criminals will always manage to find them through black markets and illegal trade, so only law-abiding citizens are targeted by gun prohibition, which is not only unfair, but senseless. Criminals are not perturbed by prohibitions at all - after all, they are criminals, so the law is of no concern to them whatsoever. The gun can be used for hunting, sports, target-shooting, and self-defence. To ban it on the grounds that criminals use guns for illegal purposes such as robbery, murder, etc, is meaningless, as they will commit these crimes whether or not guns are legal. The only variable is whether law-abiding citizens should have the right to bear arms, and we believe they should, as a means of self-defence against criminals who threaten their well-being, or for whatever legal means they see fit. |
