Bill: Proposed Increase in the Size of the Armed Forces
Details

Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: February 2863
Description[?]:
We propose, given recent instability in neighbouring nations, and more importantly the threat to Pontesian interests in Gaduridos, that we consider an expansion of our armed forces. We therefore propose that the army be specifically expanded by 20%, raising it from approx 800,000 men and women, to one million. This will lead to an increase in each infantry regiment from four battalions to five (raising an extra 74 battalions), and additional fourteen armoured regiments would need to be created. These men would all be volunteers. It would require is to step up recruitment, however we feel that in a nation of over 400 million souls we should be able to raise an army of one million men. Similarly the navy (from 600,000 to 720,000) and air force (from 400,000 to 480,000) should also go through a period of recruitment and expansion. New equipment will need to be built and we hope to have lists of equipment for the air force and navy in the not too distant future. If this resolution passes the armed forces would immediately be free to increase recruitment, and to delay retirements, particularly of staff involved in training. If it passes we would also expect the finance minister to strongly consider relevant increases in defence spending. |
