Bill: Second Stage Constitutional Reform Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Socialist Republican Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 3305

Description[?]:

The Second stage of our proposed reforms to Aloria's Constitution to improve her democratic credentials

Increasing the size of the Legislature to a total of 600 seats will improve representation by allowing more Alorians to be represented by the party of their choice and decreasing the number of constituents per reresentative. 250 is not enough in a polity of 99 million

600 also allows for clarity in the legislature. Easy to see majority of 301 seats and super-majority of 400 to amend the constitution and ratify treaties

We also propose a seperation of powers in the executive creating a seperate head of government: the Prime Minister. When the President is not a member of the governing coalition this will allow the government to continue to function. When the President is a member of the governing coalition they will still lead the government but the Prime Minister will represent the view of the government in the legislature.
