Bill: Workplace Democracy Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Radical Democratic Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2169
Description[?]:
Strikes have negative consequences on both employers and employees, and ride roughshod over contracts. Strikes should not be started lightly or for frivolous reasons. They are the workers' weapon of last resort. This bill proposes that strikes reflect a consensus of the workforce, and are not just a weapon for an extremist or politicised minority. Please note that this is Article 2 of the old Responsible Strikes Act, amended so that a majority of those workers voting only is required for a strike. We hope to address the Green Party's concerns in this way. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change Trade union strike ballots.
Old value:: Trade unions are not required by law to hold a ballot before striking.
Current: Trade unions must by law hold a ballot of all members before going on strike, a majority of all members, regardless of if they vote or not must approve the strike action.
Proposed: Trade unions must by law hold a ballot of all members before going on strike, majority approval of those that vote is needed from its members.
