Bill: Freedom of Speech and Assembly Protection Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Demokrat Konservativen Partei (DKP)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 3911

Description[?]:

To be democratic, a country ought to give the largest possibility it can to its citizens for them to freely express their opinions in the public arena. It cannot work if the government can silence protesters on a whim. The reasons must be very important.

Of course, it would still be possible for the government, on those provisions on public assembly rights, to arrest people suspected of an offense or a crime.

About the lifting of the media protection for those in the public eyes, we simply think being known of the public doesn't entail any privilege as for how the media can talk of people. But since libel and slander laws still apply, there would still be a limit on what the medias can say about somebody, which should be sufficient to prevent them to abuse their new powers to inform the public without having to fear the government reaction.
