Bill: Sint Pietereiland Independence Referendum[Rapid Passage Version]

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lindenist Union

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 3985

Description[?]:

Mr. Spreker,

Cultural, political and ethnic statistics significantly diffrentiate Sint Pietereiland from the rest of Saridan, it has developed a unique culture that is not in many ways similar to that of mainland Saridan and a powerful economy that is not only self-sustainable, but also rapidly growing. Sint Pietereilanders deserve to decide whether they want to continue being a part of the failed unitarist state of Saridan, or become independent. We should give it to them and let the democratic process take its course.

The refferendum is to take place alongside the next election. Sint Pietereilanders will choose whether they want to become independent, or stay as a part of Saridan. If independence is declared, all Saridani troops stationed on SP will be withdrawed and a shared political system will be put in place. Every party that exist in Saridan will exist in Sint Pietereiland and vice versa, but the nations will have separate Parliaments. The Parliament of Sint Pietereiland will hold 100 seats that will be elected using traditional democratic methods. The Republic of Sint Pietereiland will hereby have the right to estabilish a military up to 7000 standing men/women and will be led by a Prime Minister elected by the majority of the Parliament. Free trade, common currency and no border agreements will be signed by Sint Pietereiland and Saridan, opening ways to future mutual cooperation. Pietersburg will be the capital of the newly founded Republic, which will do everything it can to become a recognized part of the international community.

We sincerely hope for support from the Glorious Coallition, if it truly values its people, it will give them the right to choose whether they want to live in a GC Saridan or a LU Pietereiland. Let's do this in the name of democracy.

Marcel Malkes,
SP Separatist Leader

Random fact: Did you know you can change the official name of your nation? All you need to do is draw up a new name that is in accordance with the Nation Renaming Guide, pass a bill proposing the name change with a two-thirds majority and then post a request to Moderation on the "Renaming Requests" thread. You can change city and region names in this way too.
