| Sara Zanardi, whip of PSLI: "we believe the State have to concentrate all its efforts to regulate the economy, to protect the consumers, the environment and the society by the abuses and the failures which could occur in situation of free market, but we do not believe in state-owned companies, which historically was always inefficient and often turned into politicized booths used by national and local political interests as a means of votes exchanging and by national and local authorities as useful tools to make money, at the expense of efficiency, at the expense of fair competition,at the expense of the consumers. We are not talking about those foundamental services which any State has the sacrosanct duty to provide its citizens in equal and universal way, that are Healthcare, Education, Social Security and in general a Welfare System which thinks to the most deprived to counter the inequalities for the benefit of the whole society and economy. We think that there are economic sector which with adeguate state regulation are able to offer good quality services and in more efficient way than a direct involvement of the State. For example the energy production: the State already provides Energy Regulation to protect the consumers, why have also to establish state-own power plant or energy company? Why? A competitive market, impermeable to the influences of politics, can ensure constant innovation and efficiency for the benefit of consumers' pockets, which, as said, have already assured a good regulation on the matter. And about the Public Works, we think that the State can perfectly involve the privates and cooperate with them, given the necessary guideline in order to protect and to regulate, but assuring job and benefits for the society as well as for the entrepreneurs and companies which are the primary jobs creators of the nation.
