Bill: Electoral Emancipation and Engagement Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Onafhankelijke Partij voor de Vrijheid

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 4181

Description[?]:

De macht aan het volk!

This proposal seeks to democratise our nation. For too long, Vanukean parties have won at elections, and then lost all popular support halfway through their term. A six year term is unreasonable - it fosters apathy and disenchantment among the people, and allows for complacency and inaction within government and opposition. A four-year term would be far more agreeable to the people whom we exist to serve. It would ensure that people remain engaged with the nuances of policies being discussed, would encourage parties to consistently hold the government to account, and would resist what we saw recently, where the PPP took far too long to form a cabinet, simply because they did not have the pressure of having to implement an electoral agenda. This is our program for reform, and we are exceedingly proud to propose it.
