Description[?]:

Protection for women’s reproductive health has not been a priority for the government of the Republic. This is reflected in our current law code regarding women’s health. Our laws obstruct women’s access to reproductive health services and thus violate women’s basic rights as defined by both our liberal society and our constitutional duty as a government. Maternal mortality and morbidity can be helped by supporting the necessary health services, education, and laws now.

Many women die or are chronically disabled from complications of pregnancy in our nation. Maternal deaths are defined as deaths among women who are pregnant or who have been pregnant during the previous 42 days. The Human Rights Foundation has estimated that each year 500,000 women die from pregnancy-related causes across Terra and the United in the Defence of Female and Minority Rights organization states that unsafe abortions cause 25 to 50 percent of maternal deaths. This is simply because women in our nation and across Terra do not have access to family planning services they need, nor access to safe procedures or to humane treatment for the complications of abortions because they are not legalized.

These Epidemiological studies can be used to indicate which women around Terra have limited access to care and are therefore at higher risk than others of maternal mortality and morbidity. But the universal risk factor that we observe is the fact of being female. Maternal sickness and death may be triggered by pregnancy, but frequently we observe these as a result of cultural, medical, and socioeconomic factors that devalue the status and health standards of women.

These issues must be addressed. Our reproductive health and safety standards must be modernized and our cultural, medical, and socioeconomic factors must be changed to increase the value of our health system and improve health standards for our constituents. Make protections for women’s reproductive health a national priority.
