| Herr Präsident, the blanket ban on abortion currently in place encourages illegally performed procedures as well as medical tourism to countries with much more permissive laws. We therefore propose to strike a balance between well-known ethical concerns and the equally legitimate demand for personal freedom of choice by lifting the ban during the first trimester while retaining a restrictive policy on medium- and late-term pregnancies.
