Description[?]:

Throughout most of history, the clergy had massive influence and control over governments. How did they do this? through cash. It wasn't because devout rulers just wanted the advice of the clergy, but rather, because many nations relied heavily on the tithes collected by the church that were passed on the national treasury. The idea of separation of church and state was a radical one, an idea that was birthed from liberal revolutions that sought freedom and equality. The idea was this, the government leaves religious institutions alone, and the government gets to free itself from clerical influence through two new rules: religious institutions cannot make political donations or lobby for influence, and the government becomes unreliant on their money by exempting them from taxes.

We can't have just one. We cannot tax without giving political representation. So, we have two options: we stay out of religious institutions coffers, and they stay out of our governments and elections. Or: we allow ourselves to be seduced by their potential taxes and allow them to resume sinking the claws of clerical influence into the government and our political system.

I for one, want to make the secular government 100% free of the influence form religious institutions. No tax money from the clergy, no campaign donations from the clergy, and no lobbyists from the clergy.

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.
