Bill: The Strength of Diversity Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Libertarian-Socialist Coalition
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2203
Description[?]:
Sadly, many ethnic minorities and women tend to make far less than their male, ethnic Jakanian counterparts. Certainly, part of this is socioeconomics - minorities tend to be poorer and get raised in poorer neighborhoods with lower quality schools which churns out poor students. But, perhaps more troubling is that many talented Deltarians and ambitious Wantunis within our borders experience outright discrimination when trying to find jobs. If we can see some underperforming groups become more represented in the workforce, we can both kill off this cycle of poverty and encourage diverse viewpoints to strengthen our economy with innovation. The key word in the proposed bill is that we want to ENCOURAGE positive discrimination. Certainly, quotas would just be reverse discrimination. But, by giving incentives to employers to employ a diverse workforce, such as tax breaks, we can help our demographics for generations to come. |

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action. |
