Bill: Baltusian Central Bank Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Baltusia Parliamentary Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 4589

Description[?]:

Colleagues, in particular our centralist colleagues in the BCP,

Once again the BPP seeks to make the Baltusian Central Bank an organisation outside and independent of government control.

We believe that an independent central bank is free from political manipulation. It can devote itself to attaining long-run economic goals, rather than to helping politicians achieve short-run economic success in time for the next election.

Similarly, independence may strengthen the credibility of monetary policy. This may then play an important part in shaping expectations: workers may put in moderate wage demands and businesses may be more willing to invest.

Finally, an independent central bank has a clear legal status and set of responsibilities. It is the protector of the currency and as such it is not subordinate to government. This is important given the political nature of economic policy making in both a domestic and an international context.

We hope on this occasion we will garner your support.

Josh Leon,
Shadow Chancellor,
BPP
