Bill: Freedom In Peacetime Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: AM Populist Social Democrats

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2346

Description[?]:

Whereas, We see no need to require any national service, military or otherwise, when we are not at war, believing an all volunteer Army can serve our needs until a war were to begin, and our only need for a draft being after that,

We hereby propose that drafts shall be able to be instituted only in wartime, with only volunteers in the Army at other times.

Furthermore, while it is known that our party would prefer to have chemical weapons, although only to be used in retaliation to a similar attack, we know that is not a realistic thing to attempt to gain right now, so believe we should at least allow for research and development, so that if in wartime it became necessary, we could more easily move to deployment-- and just as importantly, we can also research defenses against them more effectively.

Random fact: By default the head of government is the ultimate authority within a national government. In general terms, heads of government are expected to consult with cabinet colleagues (including those from other parties) before making significant decisions but they remain responsible for government action.
