Description[?]:
=Founding= The Freedom Party was founded in October 3556 by several former members of the Democratic Freedom Party, including Lars Anderson who had been a member of the General Assembly for the DFM until he lost his seat in the 3556 general election. Other founding members included businessmen, academics, economists, farmers and students associated with pro-free market and conservative groups. The Freedom Party aims to provide representation to those who believe in a free market economy along with a tough stance on defence and law and order. The Party aims to provide better representation to Middle Class and Agricultural communities in Kirlawa. The Party dislikes the overwhelming leftist outlook of the General Assembly and aims to bring about a centre-right realignment. Lars Anderson was selected as the party's first Presidential candidate in Jan 3559, although the party are more focused on an electoral breakthrough in the national assembly. =Cabinet Positions= ==May 3560 -== Head of Government - Lars Anderson Internal Affairs - Samara Jacohvs Defence - Thomas Mooney Food and Agriculture - Henry Wallace Trade and Industry - Seamus McCraig == April 3572== The FP entered government with the Greens. Anderson had been a policeman in Nuchtmark until he retired at the age of 45. He had earlier joined the refounded Democratic freedom Party in 3542 and was elected to office in 3549 as a National Assemblyman. Anderson became a leading figure within the libertarian wing of the party, although was strongly dissilusioned with the leadership of the party. As a result he was demoted down the party list for the 3556 election and in the process lost his seat. Anderson took the opportunity to found a new political movement and was a key memebr of the foundation of the Freedom Party, becoming its first leader and Presidential candidate in 3559 where he came within 1.1% of victory. Anderson became the Prime Minister between 3560 and 3577, losing his position after a change of government at the age of 70. By the summer of 3578 his continued position as leader had become untenable, and along with much of the senior leadership Lars Anderson supported the motion to disband the Freedom Party. Lars Anderson has never married although he has three children with his partner. Anderson is a lifelong athiest, although believes in freedom of belief. Socially liberal he believes in small government , combined with a robust defence policy and secure borders. =Election Results= ==3559== The 3559 general and Presidential elections witnessed a massive breakthrough for the Freedom Party. Election specialists have given three keys reasons. Firstly the dynamic appeal of a new party that specifically appealed to groups in society that felt unrepresented (farmers, middle classes), secondly the successful influence of the Freedom Party that had led to the passage of legislation demonstrating that the Freedom Party was the party of change and thirdly a breakdown of confidence in the older parties that led to a complete failure to see the Freedom Party as a threat. The Freedom Party surged to gain 177 National Assembly on nearly 25% of the vote, and Lars Anderson took 49.5% of the vote of the second round of Presidential elections having narrowly squeezed out the DFM and Green Party in the first round. The party took over half the vote in Nuchtmark and topped the poll in Dirguzia. However this astounding success leaves the Freedom Party open to potential issues. Only 30 of their new assemblymen had previously served in the National Assembly (with other parties), leaving a huge number of inexperienced politicians who may have only seen elected office at the regional or even local level previously. The number of new members is likely to lead to factionalism that could split the party. However under the strong leadership of Anderson the party is likely to retain its new image and activity and may well hold onto much of its new support. ==3563== Total mixed results for the Freedom Party. The Party was effectively trashed in Dirguzia and Nuchtmark. In these two regions they 124 Assembly Members before the election and this fell to just 26. The lost of 62 members in Nuchtmark severely weakened Lars Andersons positions within the party. Despite these catastrophic losses the Freedom Party actually made solid gains in Dirlana, Merkan and Uwakah, increasing their representation from 53 to 93 and masking the dreadful performance in Dirguzia and Nuchtmark. The dramatic losses are explained by the defection of middle class liberal voters back to the Greens and the lost of anti-establishment votes as the Freedom Party led a new coalition government. Gains are explained by successful appeals to middle class and agricultural areas that hadn’t been targeted by the Freedom Party in 3559. Talk of a leadership challenge in 3564 have gone unheeded and Lars Anderson seems secure in his position as it tries to prevent the Freedom Party turning into a populist right-wing organisation and maintain it as a centrist economically liberal party. = 3578 Disbanding and Formation of the Conservative Party = After a poor showing in the 3577 general election in which the party declined to 13% of the vote, Right-Wing ministers and leaders within the party, including the party’s youth wing, endorsed a socially conservative platform and challenged the leader of the Party Lars Anderson to implement it. Anderson retained enough support at the party conference to defeat the platform, however after consultation with centrist and socially liberal senior figures within the party it was decided that the Freedom Party could no longer exist in its present form and that the left-wing of the party was invited to join the DFP and the Greens. The socially conservative rump, under the direction of former cabinet ministers Patrick Roberts, Tanya Tait and Mhairi Vaughnessen took on the main apparatus of the Freedom Party, forming the Conservative Party in Nov 3578. |
