Description[?]:

The ELF is a party of radical social democrats, democratic socialists,ex- revolutionaries, and others dedicated to the cause of social justice, civil libertarianism, and socialism through parliamentary reform. Our members are influenced by a number of radical and leftist political philosophers, including Marx, Dworkin, Rawls, Kant, and Trotsky.

While a range of ideas and ideologies exist within the party, the following general statement is accepted by most within the party.

Civil Libertarianism: Provided that their actions do not harm other and are conducive to social justice, we agree that all Egelionians be able to lead their lives and express themselves as they see fit.

Equality of Opportunity: No Eglionian should be denied any right or opportunity because of disadvantages that are outside of their control. No child should suffer or be denied opportunities because they were born impoverished or because their parents have made poor decisions.

Representative Democracy: While many of our members have espoused and continue to support a revolutionary path to socialism, we believe that the best way to govern a society as diverse and complex as our own is through representative democracy, but with a lot of opportunities for citizens to be involved in the political process via activism in political parties, trade unions, civil society groups, social clubs and other political and social organisations.

Secularism: We believe in freedom of and freedom from religion and insist that federal, regional, and local governments are not be allowed to show religious bias or to use their own religious values as a means of regulating the lives of others, accept when such regulation can, in the economic sphere, also be supported by broader principles of social justice. While some of our members and our compatriots to have ideas and do lead lives that are inspired by religious principles, we will not accept policies that will make others feel unwelcome because they hold minority religious beliefs or no beliefs at all. We draw the line at the use of religious conviction as justification to threaten the health and the life of one's children.

Social and Economic Justice: We believe that a strong public sector, a strong private sector focused innovation rather than on infrastructural profiteering, and an activist government are all central to building a free, egalitarian, prosperous, and just society.

Sustainable Development: Humanity is leaving an ecological footprint on Terra that will ultimately devastate our world. We believe that it is morally imperative that we halt and reverse the growth of this footprint for own sake and for the sake of future generations and those with whom we share this planet.

Internationalism: Terra faces complex geopolitical and ecological issues that can only be solved if countries are willing to denounce unilateralism and work together in building a Terra that is free, just, and prosperous. That said, unless we take care of ourselves and our compatriots, we will not be in a position where we can work together for Terra.

Strength: While we are staunch proponents of internationalism, we realise that most countries in Terra are more authoritarian and more imperialistic than Egelion and that all Egelionians have a stake in protecting our country from these undesirable influences. For this reason, we believe in the democratisation of national security and in a military that -- while not being aggressive and not favouring the use of nuclear, chemical, biological, and other weapons of mass destruction -- possesses defensive and transporation capabilities that are second to none. Out of respect for conscientious objectors, we believe in offering Egelionians alternative forms of civil service. We are adamantly opposed to the existence of any military-industrial complex, and thus believe that the entire defense industry must be owned and controlled by the state so as to ensure that profiteering never becomes a pretense to war or an excuse to lower the quality of life of our compatriots serving both at home and abroad.

Non-Discrimination: Under no circumstances do we consider mistreating or denying opportunity to others on the basis of race, gender, social class, political opinion, sexual orientation, gender identity, language, disability, ethnicity or religion to be acceptable or tolerable in our land.

Justice: We believe in using a combination of rehabilitative, restorative, and deterrent justice as a means of combating crimes against people, their property, and the state. As we recognize that humans have an innate dignity and that justice systems are inherently imperfect, we oppose the death penalty under any and all circumstances. We oppose prohibitionist drug policy in favour of one centred around health, education, and sound science. We consider any form of prison-industrial complex or private-sector involvement in the justice system to be unconscionable in that by allowing people and companies to profit off incarceration, we create a financial incentive to criminalize behaviors that are either not wrong or other ones not meant to be dealt with via criminalization.

Technology and Intellectual Property: While we respect the right of individuals and companies to profit off innovation and creativity, we recognize that artistic and technological progress are part of a collective cultural fabric. As such, we believe in limited copyright protection (both in duration and scope), unlimited time and format shifting of digital media (and a prohibition of any technologies that restrict such freedoms), and in legal not-for-profit file sharing. We nonetheless remain strongly opposed to profiting off of another's work and ideas while they are under copyright.

Infrastructure: Infrastructure, including roads and rails, phone and cable lines, and power and data transmission facilities, is a collective right and a collective responsibility and should be used to facilitate the movement and transportation of individuals, objects, ideas, and data rather than as a means of profiteering. As such, we believe that all infrastructure should be owned and operated by the public sector, in conjunction with the public sector, or within a strict regulatory climate that protects people and businesses against gouging and abusive practices. We are absolutely opposed to the simultaneous ownership of both infrastructure and content, due to concerns about monopolies and about conflicts of interest.

In addition, ELF maintains ties to unions, progressive NGOs, and other groups dedicated to building a free, green, just, and prosperous Egelion.
