Description[?]:
The Post-Revolutionary Pragmatic Party has old roots. Emerging from Gaduridos's then-vibrant coffeehouse culture in 2156, the party vocally challenged the political consensus of the day. Its leader, Thimoty, was a vehement proponent of what he called the 'radical middle', distancing himself from both the nationalist and the libertarian ideologies then in vogue. "The state is not only responsible for the common good, it is the guarantor of every citizen's right to pursue his own. The state is not the enemy of liberty, yet liberty is impossible without the state." - Excerpt from inauguration speech, 2261. After winning a plurality of 44% in the 2249 election, the party was able to implement most of its proposals, and soon after disbanded itself. "We have restored politics to its proper role. Our purpose as a party has been achieved, our mission accomplished," wrote Thimoty in his famous 2267 ‘Anti-Manifesto'. Most political analysts considered this an attempt to avoid any damage to his reputation as a statesman, by retiring on his absolute zenith. After a long slumber, the party reformed itself in 3002. Its new leader, Vicq Azyr, a firebrand orator and ex-oceanographer, claims to adhere closely to the original party's principles and says they are needed "now more than ever". However, it remains to be seen whether the PRPP will be able to repeat the success it had in its heyday. "We ask not handouts, we ask for justice! Our people go oppressed, our identities are denied or smugly dismissed. But even if our present is dismal and grim, we will not be fooled into thinking it is bound to be so. We will not be fooled into thinking this is the way of the world, this is the way it is and this is the way it is going to be. No! People of Gaduridos, you are wiser than that! You remember the way things were, you remember that the future looked bright once - yes, that even your today was filled with laughter and hope! And I promise you this, with every vessel, every tissue in my body: it will be so again." - Vicq Azyr, 'The Case for Rebirth', 3002. |

Random fact: In cases where a party has no seat, the default presumption should be that the party is able to contribute to debates in the legislature due to one of its members winning a seat at a by-election. However, players may collectively improvise arrangements of their own to provide a satisfying explanation for how parties with no seats in the legislature can speak and vote there. |
