Description[?]:
The URF is committed to a philosophy of social conservatism and free-market economics. Our Beliefs Economcs: We are ardent supporters of free markets, private property, and individual initative. However, we recognize that society has a responsibility to help those who cannot help themselves. Hence we support a very mild welfare state, (some form of universal health care, public pensions, some kind of welfare for unemployed and disabled workers, etc.). However, we do not like the Great Society version of this state and we are suspicious of those reforms which create vast and energetic beuraucracies to "solve social problems". In short, while we support a welfare state, we are opposed to the paternalistic state. We also think that the welfare state will best promote the common good if it is concieved in such a way as not to go bankrupt. Civil Liberties:We are ardent defenders of the traditional liberties of Egelionians, including the right to speak freely, freedom of the press, the right to a jury trial, the right to bear arms and the right of association. While we recognize that there must be some limits to liberty, we believe that it is one of the most important principles. We will defend the traditional liberties of this nation against the threat of unrestrained governmental power, and we will defend it against all attacks, wether from the right or from the left. Note: At variance with most other conservative parties, the URF strongly supports gay rights, as we do not see how allowing two adults who love each other to marry is in any way destructive to the morals of the people. |
