| The PST is a socialist unity party originally formed following the revolutions of 4790 and the civil war of 4791-4794. Originally a loose alliance between disparate militant organizations and their civil counterparts during the war, its first recognizable form was as a moderate faction in the Gouvernement Provisoire Révolutionnaire. After a series of splits, revisions, and mergers, the group, by then known as the Union Populaire, crystallized in 4799 as the major coalition in the assembly. It was the driving force behind the dissolution of the provisional government and declaration of the new republic, during which process it changed its name once more and emerged as the sole ruling party of the Republic in July 4802. |
