Description[?]:
Perhaps the worst thing imaginable is being forced to do something. Imagine for a second: living a life with no choice of your own: you cannot choose to dine on your favourate food, be out at night, or are even restricted from playing Particracy! Take this further, and imagine that you are constantly being attacked by a local bully, who steals your money at a whim, and spends it on what she/he feels is appropriate to make society better. Yes, this is the very vision of life that the members of the Liberty Initiative are most fearful of. Naturally, the aforementioned world is one where the state controls who you as an individual are, and controls your world. What we will always strive for is not necessarily a world of capitalism, or a world of any "ism" for that matter, but a world where no one can force anyone to do anything, unless it violates a loose criminal code: one consensually created by the members of society. Some people have even accused this as being a form of anarchism, which is something that we feel it is closest to, but with the idea of ownership being enforced. But hey, if the whole of society were able to consensually agree to eliminating the concept of ownership, then do it, by all means! In the Liberty Initiative, we believe in the individual. Individuals should be kept free from any oppression: weather it be oppression by other individuals, groups, or even majorities. =============================================== PLATFORM: On Centralization: Hell, the more community representation, the better! Nationalism defies our vision, and would not be enforced. Thus, the most decentralized, community oriented society is the one that we would support. Communities can come up with consensus much easier than a nation! Civil Rights: Whatever does not restrict an individual's ability to do things is hip. Ecology: If people want to live in an ecological wasteland, they can go right ahead. We don't want to, so we will preserve the environment. However, the government should never, ever, EVER be the one to make sure that the environment is protected: It should be left to individuals. Foreign Relations: Nationalism is not what we have in mind, and we feel no need to restrict the mingling between nations. Restriction of any kind for that matter is a bad thing. Government Responsibilities: What government? In our world, there really isn't much of a government, just a legal body. Market: We don't really care, do whatever you want. I guess that makes us "laissez-faire..." Military: Umm...no. Keep that away from us. Unless there's a threat to be bothered with, we don't want to have to do any fighting. If there is a threat, then this is probably the only area that the government is justified in intervening. Morality: Morales are totally and utterly subjective. As a result, they should be left to the individual, and to the government. Religion: "God is dead" -Nietzsche "Nietzsche is dead" -God Wow, who should we believe? To be honest, we really don't care what anyone believes; it should NOT be enforced on anyone else though. Nietzsche's quote is fun though :-) |

Random quote: "Civil disobedience. . . is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience. . Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem." - Howard Zinn |
