Description[?]:
PRAYER is better than SLEEP. History Muslim Wake Up! was originally founded as a grassroots activist organization. However, in 2571, Project Director Josef Alevi, finding the traditional parties inept and unrealistic, chose to take the organization into electoral politics. The first election was an unsurprising failure. While many al'Badari were familiar with Alevi's organization, Muslim Wake Up! did not yet have a functional platform or many notable candidates. Alevi used the failure to reform MWU and prepare it for the election of 2574, which was an electoral blowout even amidst Godwinist-Tongist insurgencies and attempts at electoral interference. Membership Membership in Muslim Wake Up! has changed little since its transfer from an activist organization to a political party. Membership and rank are still drawn by seniority and volunteer hours. Members comprise a diverse religious background of Muslims, Christians, Jews, Baha'i and Druze. Social background varies from factory worker to doctor to college professor. Muslim Wake Up! is an organization that has a face as diverse as that of al'Badara, perhaps due to its non-involvement in politics and its unorthodox organization upon entering politics. Attaining membership is as simple as visiting the regional office and putting in at least 1 hour a week towards volunteer activities. Organization Delegates up for the Grand Majelis are chosen on national ballots, not regional ballots. In this manner, Muslim Wake Up! avoids many of the pitfalls of electoral politics stemming from regionalism and corruption. Regional demagogues and corrupt ward bosses find no place in this system. Each of the 749 delegates are chosen by special ballot in the regional offices. Voters check the ticket for support of the party, not a specific candidate and seats are allotted randomly to the men who got on the ticket. The paramilitary and youth wing of Muslim Wake Up! is the Wide-Awakes. Older members may go armed, for that is the sad necessity of these times. Youth members act as mere observers to the action, always having the Internet and their cameras ready to record wrongdoings and to spread the word of MWU. The information wing of MWU is the Sentinel, which is expected to resume its operations in radio, television, newspaper and the blogosphere in upcoming weeks. Affiliated with the Sentinel is the Umma of al'Badara, the largest religious organization in the country. The core membership of the party are involved in numerous volunteer activities across the nation, as well as with campaigning for the broad organization. |
