MessageWe could only support article II. Far from improving Citizenship and strengthening our military identity this will have the opposite effect. At the moment Citizenship is awarded to veterens for their voluntary military service to the Crown. This bill will mean all school leavers begin to qualify for citizenship, not just those patriotic and selfless enough to serve their Empire. Secondly conscription does not improve the military identity of a country. Compare Great Britain or the United States to countries with national service such as France and Italy. Who has the stronger military identity?
